| All of the polls say public support for the war has declined drastically. One poll reports that 59% want to withdraw all or some of the troops now. (About half say some, half say all.) What is the right thing to do? |

Until this information came out, I was convinced we would have to leave the troops in until things settled down. I wrote a post about that more than a year ago. I haven't thought much about the practicality of removing troops sooner. Or the desirability.
It would be great to get them out, but at this point I think it would leave the 'insurgents' in the driver's seat. I'm convinced the different factions are already in a civil war. Removal of foreign troops would just intensify the fighting. I can't see that as a good thing. At this point I think we have to continue training troops for the elected government and wait till they can take over. Then get the hell out of Dodge. |

| When the polls indicate it's time to pull the troops out, Bush will have to look for more ways to keep them there as, if you haven't forgotten, they went their in the first place for the oil, or at least, to stabilise supply and guarantee low prices by destabilising the region - divide and rule etc. Bush's real nightmare will begin once his political minions in Iraq declare they want US troops out, which they may have to declare if they want to, live. |

| When the Iraqi Army is ready (at least another 36 months) the US will move US forces to bases in Kurdistan. While The US doesn't intend to withdraw forces anytime soon, they will probably have them out of Iraqi cities by 2009. |

Maybe the polls will start to become as they were during the Vietnam war and the "will to win" on the part of invading armies will become less than that of the so-called insurgents? |

IF the US army is in Kurdistan it will be away from the insurgents. US forces will be pretty safe there.
The insurgents will have to invade Kurdistan if they are to get at the US army. That is a much more difficult task for them then to fight in their own cities. The Kurds hate the insurgents and will fight back if the insurgents try invading.
If they invade Kurdistan then the insurgents will be much more visable and attackable then they are now. If the insurgents invade Kurdistan then they will take much higher casualites then they are taking now. And it even maybe that the Kurdish forces are superior to the insurgents.
The North Vietnamese were 50 % of Vietnam but the insurgents are only 20% of Iraq. They have a much more difficult task than North Vietnam did. |

Hey, that's real nice, just in time for Kommandant Cheney's inauguration ... and I wonder who was it who picked that particular year.
