Let's put it this way.

In 1953, the US toppled a democratic Iran.

How's that for spreading fredom into the Middle East?

"Similarities" might be the wrong word.

Is there any relevance?

I never said Saddam's Iraq was a democracy.

On the other hand, if we hadn't been providing Saddam with the goods to exterminate the whacko government who ended up taking over after we deposed a DEMOCRATIC Iran, we might have a slightly better image than the one we do now talking about how we're going to spread freedom through the region.

Now, you go back to smoking whatever tailpipe is handed to you.
