I think we're all happier they're gone. It's more egalitarian these days.

Anyway, there's a lot of chopping of old threads deemed unimportant so those people (not me of course!) who post a lot of pish in the off-topic forum have a lower post count.

The joined date may be more important. That's still there. I say may because I find some people who arrived only 6 months ago seem more clued up than those who came here 5 years ago. It's rare but it happens.

If one is curious about post counts, you can click on an individual's profile and select 'Find all posts by XYZ' and the next screen will say 'Search found XYZ matches' displaying the number of posts that they've had.

I don't get it. This question was resolved ages ago. Post counts were obliterated. The board became a better place. I repeat, the question was resolved. Why do you want to go back and revisit it?

Who cares about post counts? I can generally tell who posts a lot and who posts a little. I don't need to know your weight in micrograms to know if you're fat or skinny. And who cares about socks for that matter? Are you really just burning to know if two posters are the same person you've never met anyway?

You people get worked up over nothing. For me, the fact that people have socks is a mild source of amusement. If that's what yanks their cranks, hey, more power to em. I care not a whit.

The socks are very easy to spot. Laughing

We had a public poll way back when and the board verdict was to end post counts.

Personally I think the post count thing is a little immature and encourages waste-of-bandwidth that is tedious to have to wade through when users want to check a thread for valid info. Quantity over quality sort of thing.

That'd be because we've gone through a few names....I think I've had 3 (maybe 4) since '97.

It was an improvement to ditch the post counts.

I still think something needs to be done about the forums though. The Q&A is a ghost town most of the time and there is no differentiation between the General and Off Topic Forums.

I say absorb the Off Topic and Q&A into General.

Duh.... all you have to look at is the IP addresses. Very simple for you to find, since they're posted for mods to see.

I think it would encourage people to post more. Bring back more life to this place. Like when you get to 1000 dave sperling will send you a pm saying what a joyful moment this is in your life. Also that you should get a free beer or something. Try and get the Seoul Pub to sponsor this site and then more people would post and make it bearable to wait 3 months for dave to activate your account.
