I respect your preference to not see movies on dates or whatever, but does that also mean by your definition that 'quality time' must involve conversation (and lets face it you have a lot of inane conversations for every good one)

Regarding seeing films/movies.

I'm one of those types that hates going to see any movies/films with anyone - guys or girls. I just think its a waste of time (unless you really didn't want to be that person and kill a couple hours of the evening so you don't have to talk to them).

If there is a movie/film I really want to see.. I just go by myself as a solo activity. Gives me something to do.. and I can spend more quality time with friends or girlfriend elsewhere.

I can see your point. Many people who go to the movies in pairs or groups TALK during the movie. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

really, how many times have you been in your home country and seen a pair of gents or even a group watching a flick together? not much, i'd reckon.

personally, if i'm gonna have a boys' night out i'd much rather spend it having a beer and watching the game than going to the movies. a movie would be at the bottom of my list. but that's just me (and alot of other guys).

I've been to many movies with the guys. Who else would go to see movies like Diehard, XXX, or the like? You're not going to take your date to see those, are you?

Now, if you and the guys are going to see " Sleepless in Seattle" together, well that's a different story.

I sense a closet-case here!

What kind of girls do you think are going to just turn up at a screening of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, see a bunch of repressed, self-loathing homos in denial, and think "Woo! Premium seats!"?

Saw about 12-15 Korean girls in a TGIF recently as I passed by. They were the only costumers I saw, from the outside.

Yeah, but you're from Toronto. Your opinion doesn't count outside Toronto.

I've been going to the movies by myself the last couple of weeks. Those assigned seating really ticks me off....but I just moved to a better seat once the movie started.

Anyway, yeah, Korean men generally don't like western food or want to try it as much as Korean women. From my perspective, I find Korean women a more daring, culturally open-minded than Korean men. It sometimes ticks me off that my husband will make disgusted faces when he tries other ethnic dishes or pours ko-joo-chang sauce all over delicious Thai food, but I think many Korean men just have a palatte for Korean food only. When i worked with Koreans, I always invited the Korean women out to western restaurants and they were excited to go. I stopped inviting the male teachers because they always tried to change it to a Korean restaurant.

Are you talking pre- or post-amalgamation? Disgruntled Scarberians (granted there are no other kind) wish to know.

I have half-noticed this already, but now that you have elaborated it, yeah, I think so.. I enjoy going out with my students, but if the captain of the class is male, it will be samgyupsal 100% of the time. Sigh.

Sometimes if the conversation in my class is about food, if I talk about Italian pasta or sausage or feta cheese or French bread or other delicacies, I can see a little puddle of drool form on the mouths of the females.. until an adjoshi student stamps it out-- oh, but we Koreans don't like to eat that because we Koreans..etc..etc.. healthful and good for men's power...etc. Generally these people have never tried it before pronouncing it unKorean. I wonder if for some people it isn't a constant act of self-will to convince oneself that eating the same thing three times a day covered with the same sauce for eighty years is pleasurable and healthy.

What is it really that makes foreign foods so frightening to males here? I always enjoyed trying out new food (ok so I'm adventurous), but even my new-food-wary brother loves Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, German, whatever food. Just no fish and seafood. Here it seems like it's more "hey, I'll never touch that strange looking variation of Ja-jang-myong (spaghetti), but, can I get another order of stuffed pig's intestines (soon-dae, which I love, by the way), it's ok to be adventurous, it's Korean! Is this strictly a Korean thing or is this shared by other immigration-free nations? Gawd....live a little...and close your mouth when you chew....ughh...can't stand it

That's because Korean guys are generally more conservative than women. For those of you who may have failed to notice.

Why would it matter-Korean girls, before The Transformation, are easier on the eyes, and are better company to talk to-let the dudes stick together and get into their spitting contests.

Koreans are probably the most food predjudiced group of people in the world. Case in point: bringing packs of kimchi, ramien, and soju drinking boxes in their suitcases for a three day trip to another country. Then once in the other country, eating only at Korean restaurants.
