My hogwon promised a one way flight to my home country upon completion of my contract (which is this month). I am planning to live in Korea a bit longer so I asked if it would be possible for me to pay the difference between a one-way and a round trip fare. The hogwon said no, but they will pay half of the round trip fare.
A travel agency quoted 1.8 million won for a round trip ticket to Los Angeles (the flight leaves July 26th and returns one month later). The one way fare is 1.2million. I think that is too expensive.
The hogwon owns the travel agency so they will not use a competitor's.
So I need your advice. What would you do in this situation?
I really don't want to pay 900K won for something that could be a lot less.
Thanks.

Air Gorilla comes up with

ICN-LAX Return 1.7 million

ICN-LAX O/W ..

800,000 via Shanghai
1.06 m via Taipei
1.14 m via Osaka

Why not just take the O/W ticket and buy a new return in USA? Saves a long fruitless debate about what is cheapest.

Unlikely. He said that the hagwon owner owns the travel agent too... if he just wants a oneway ticket.. the hagwon owner pays very little for the airfare because there's no profit on top of whatever fare they are selling it to the general public...

I think this is a right scam. I have searched for fares at around that time from incheon to LAX and the lowest I got was 1,120,000 return!!!!

yea, take the one way ticket. Im guessing when you say 'live' in korea longer Im guessing you will be finding another teaching job? If so, your new job will pay for your ticket back to Korea again.
