don't McDonalds do the same thing?

Mcdonalds stops frying up the sausage patties, eggs and bacon after 11:00am. If there is one sitting on the warmer they will still give it to you after 11:00am. But they just won't get out all of the breakfast ingredients again just for you. But it appears the fixin's for the RYE sandwich were all readily available just needing to be slapped together.

McDonalds has a whole assembly line that they need to reconfigure at 11, so they can't produce sausage sandwiches in the afternoon or cheeseburgers in the morning. HOWEVER they will never tell you you can't have Diet Coke with breakfast or orange juice with dinner, just because their menu writer didn't think you'd like that at that time of day.

Exactly, it is about product integrity (quality), nothing more. The grill has to be at a higher temp for hamburgers.

Similarly, KFC closes at ten, but when I walked in at 9:40, it was too late for the only item I wanted, which takes maybe 3 minutes to make. So what? I did not get my zinger burger. A harsh life it is.

This thread reminds me of the time, I went to a Pizza Hut wih a Korean friend of mine. The two of us, wanted to order a pizza designed for 3~4 and they wouldn't let us order it. We got up and started to walk out when a junior manager type came over and asked my friend what the problem was.

My friend told him and Junior basically agreed with the worker. My friend and junior's discussion was getting on the warm side. Not wanting to make a scene, I said to my friend, let's forget about it and just go. He said no, and continued talking. Then Senior Manager came along and even before Senior said anything my friend starts laying into him.

Senior was more accomodating, in the end we got everything we wanted for free, that day. There evidently was a tongue lashing, as the waitress came out 20 minutes later with the signs she had been crying. Junior didn't look in the best of moods, either. I guess in Korea, size does matter.

hehe.. yes, I've had the same problem at KFC as soft drinks make me sick. "Can I have iced tea instead?" "No, only cola with the set menu." "OK, goodbye."

My co-worker bought a combination ticket last summer for Europe, and thus had a prepaid ticket for Canada for this summer. The Korean ticket agents wouldn't give her her ticket! "Every seat on every flight is booked for every day this summer-- sorry!" After she paid a special "upgrade fee" there were suddenly lots of seats...

i have encountered the OP's problem in fast food restaurants.

fountain pop. i don't like coca-cola, so i ask if i can have a chilsung cider with my set meal.

the answer?

"(sucks teeth) sorry, no. you have to have coke. it is a set"

"can you just move the cup over two nozzles and press a different button?"

"no. set."

"you're not losing money to do this."

"sorry, it is a set, you have to have coca cola".

so i cancel the set and order all the items i got in the set, with a similarly-sized chilsung cider.

it comes to about 500 won more and the server looks at me like i'm insane, but it creates a longer lineup, i get my cider, pay my money and i'm giggling inside at the inefficiency of it all.

by no means does this go for all service situations... my local korean restaurant is always giving me extra fish with my food because I look like i need the protein.

This might be (and I am only guessing) a case of a sponsorship deal with Coke. They may be contractually obligated to offer only Coke as part of their set meals.

It may also be an example of the Korean tendency to find the most retarded person available for the job at hand. I have never been to a place where so many people have no clue how to do their jobs. Bank clerks, sales clerks, taxi drivers,...the list goes on and on...

i remember last year i went to mcdonald's near the exit of SNU station, line 2... i think i ordered a big mac set, paid for it and was given the tray with the coke and fries... the girl told me that they will just bring the big mac... i told her i'd sit in the second floor... so i went to my seat and started eating the fries... after 5 minutes, one of the staff came up bringing a sandwich but headed to the other table's direction... i waited some more and after another 5 minutes, a guy came up again bringing a sandwich and went to another table... by this time, i had consumed everything but i still waited... after about 10 minutes i went down and ask the girl about my big mac... she was flushed and said sorry about a thousand times!!!... her manager talked to her and asked what was wrong... he was sooo embarrassed and asked me to wait a few minutes... so i did, and he personally delivered the big mac (in a bag) with two apple pies and a large fries

good thing i'm really a nice person Smile and didn't make a lot of fuss about it...

Haven't Korean businesses already taken over the world?

It's true Koreans can be very inflexible over menus, and North Americans are very good at personalizing orders - probably better than any other country, UK included - but Korean businesses give good service in other ways. Like deliver food to your door late in the evening for peanuts and come back later to retrieve the dishes too.

I think SK's doing a respectable job considering country size and pop size when compared to Japan. As you know, Japan attempted to push Uncle Sam aside in order to implement it's own form of manifest destiny throughout Asia. Post-war, shackles of trade became more effective for acquiring off-shore real estate than cannon shot especially, post oil crisis and the petro dollar recycling era.

Not sure how much property is owned by Japanese Zaibatsu probably sizeable, or, Korean Chaebols though I can only speculate property chains wasn't a primary directive. SK however, seems to have made a sizeable if not equal stamp in everything else when compared.

BLT's may be koreanized(and when in SK, do as we say and do) but their semi-conductor biz, telecommunications, etc, etc aren't too shabby.

I've also noticed Samsung signs in many motion pictures.

Wonder why that is?

No doubt. Starting a thread about how Korean business will never globally prosper on the grounds that a Korean employee at a deli wouldn't make a sandwich after a certain time, is totally fucking stupid. It amazes me how some of the morons on here can keep hitting new lows. Confused

They just don't seem to understand that THE CUSTOMER IS KING. Idiots. If your watch says 11:15 but the customer says it's 10:59... who is right? The customer, stupid. That is, if you want his money.

When did I do that, clown? Remind me so I can try to reminisce what it must have been like, cuz it sounds like it would have been fun. It's a friggin avatar, not like a certain OP who started this thread that virtually says 'Hey guys, I just got off the plane and brought a trunkful of personal issues with me, and I'm locked and loaded to blame Korea for all of it.' Yawn. You showing up on this thread just gave hope to any teacher who doubts their ability to get a job in this country.

Stick around. Someday you'll be brave enough to start venturing into Korean restaurants. There you'll learn a word Koreans like to use called 'service', that comes off like 'suh-bees-uh'. Make note of when it happens. Also make note of the Korean restaurant ajumma who is half-asleep in the corner at 3 AM, because she is kind enough and considerate of your patronage to keep the restaurant open past closing time, so you and your friends can enjoy more beers and food. That goes on everywhere. You just need to step into Korea to see it, first.
