Today the Senate Armed Services Committee is holding hearings. Teddy said Iraq is a quagmire, to which Rumsfeld and the three generals at the table disagreed. It is an insurrection, but not a quagmire. (Does that make any sense to anyone? It's a good example of how to quibble over the meaning of a word and ignore the main point. Disgusting.)

Kennedy went on to list some of the bad decisions Rummy has made (lack of armor, etc.) 'Americans deserve competency and the truth'. He then asked Rummy if it was time for him to resign.

Rummy said he's offered his resignation twice and Bush hasn't accepted it.

IMO, it is several years past time for Rumsfeld to resign.

I would look Kennedy in the face and tell him this....

"When you apologize to the American people for walking around for several hours in the dark while a young woman drowned in your car because you were worried about your political career then maybe, just maybe, I will resign....until then, go *beep* yourself."

Mr. funplanet,

On the other hand beat you to it by about 24 hours. So, you consider involuntary manslaughter or negligent homocide (Teddy) to be the equivalent of gross incompetence (Rummy) in the conduct of the war. Interesting.

These two things are apples and oranges. While Teddy DID leave a young woman to drown in his car while he skulked away into the night, you only FEEL that Rumsfeld is guilty of "gross incompetence in the conduct of the war." I realize that a lot of people on this board equate feelings with reality but, in the real world, it doesn't float.

Yes, I have to agree with the more conservative members of this board, but for a slightly different reason. Kennedy is as left-wing as they come in the Senate. If someone more moderate said the same, then it would mean something. For example, the Economist. Oh wait, it already has. Now if only some others in Congress had the courage to do the same.

Was that a Freudian slip?

I don't think my attitude is 'only' a feeling. I think a bunch of soldiers who had to call Mom to buy them some armor would agree with me. I think the generals who are told to occupy a vast area but are given 50% of the troops they need to do it might agree with me. I'm not going to go down the list of failures.

What is a feeling I have is that you have a contempt for the lives of our troops. Your group is willing them to risk their lives so you can make a political point.

And I think it is shabby to try to change the subject when 6 more died today.

He should resign. He sucks. Why does Bush keep him around? Surely we can find better.

If Bush fired Rumsfeld, it would suggest that he'd been wrong from the start. He (bush) has to ride the tiger now and can't afford to admit being fallible.

Objectively, Rumsfeld is a formidable intellect and a breath of fresh air; however, he's quite impersonable.

Back when the team was formed and the road ahead was decided, I agreed with everything, the one nag being, that I didn't like Rumfeld, Bush and VP Chaney as people. Respected but not liked.

I'm thinking, one should pay greater heed to instincts and less to reason.

J-J Rousseau is applauding you from his grave. As one of the other poster's profile says, The Englightenment was great while it lasted.

What are your thoughts on J.J. Rousseau, old man? I mean, sure, he is one of the greats, but do you agree with any of what he says?

Ha.... the last Kennedy...

As Democrats lay bleeding and dying from the near-mortal wounds inflicted on their party by the American public for the past several voting seasons, all they can do is choke a few bloody words:

"Mussssst deeeesstroyy Buuusssshh... Rummmmsfeld resiiign..." *cough*

"Keeeneeedy.... caaammmelllot..... Clinnnnntonnn...." *cough* *cough*
