| Is it possible to withdraw money from an American bank account with an American ATM card from ATM machine in Korea? Has anyone done this? |

| I don't know about an American card, but I used my British ATM card with no problems in Korea. |

The cards work - do you have the money? |

Depends on which banks you go to, but enough of the ATM's take international cards to make it convenient enough. |

| Yea, the two big ATM networks, Cirrus and Plus are here and provided you have one of those two stamps on yor card, you should be OK. |

| the machines inside of GS/LG25 also allow you to do it, and possibly MiniStop and Family Mart as well. Look for "hannet" machines in these convenience stores and subways. |

Do you need a special pin number for international withdrawals or is it just like withdrawing back home albeit with higher transaction fees. My wife is in Korea now, and was unable to withdraw from Plus machine though we have such a stamp on the back of the card. |

| I don't know about Americans, but my Canadian card is kind of hit and miss in that a lot of machines that have the Cirrus or Plus sign won't accept it, but some will, and it seems kind of random which ones do or don't. I've had success with the ones in Itaewon and Yeoksam stations, and some machines at Citibank. |

| The PIN remains the same however, the service is spotty. I used to rely on my USA cards for money but it was a bad idea. You need to pick out a reliable machine and use that one. The machine mistakes are on the Korean side I'm certain. |

yeah i find that too with my canadian bank card.
it's even harder to get a cash advance at an ATM from a credit card! the only ATMs that seem to work are those crappy NICE ATMs in the subway, and only about one out of five actually work. once i had to travel to 6 different stations in a northerly direction on the olive line, hopping turnstiles in my bathroom slippers and my pink toiletry basket at each one to get some cash to pay for the sauna. tough times, those. |
