Posted: Wed Jun 29, 2005 1:29 am Post subject: Immigration Closed on All Saturdays now? |
|
|
I've just beentold (by an acquiantance) that Immigration is no longer open on Saturdays...the thing is, this person generally hasn't a clue about much of anything, so I don't necessarily believe it.....
Does anyone know if Seoul Immigration is still open on Saturdays, and if so, which Saturdays it falls on in July?
OR, because I've not had any luck in finding the immigration phone number, if someone posts the phone number I suppose I could call them myself
Thirdly -- working in Gyeonggi-do (Bundang) is it Seoul immigration I visit, or is there one for Gyeonggi-do?
Thanks |

Don't know about the Saturday thing.
Here is their number, though... Bundang-ites like you and me must go to the Omokgyo office in Seoul.

Alternate Saturdays till the end of the year.
Then next year, no Saturdays.
Simple as that. |

This is gonna be good...
Teacher: I have to get my E-2 processed from Immigration.
Boss: Go on Saturday
Teacher goes and finds they're no longer open on Saturdays
Boss: Go ahead and start work. Not a problem.
Teacher: But I need my E-2 first.
Boss: Don't worry, I know someone from immigration.
Teacher: But I don't want to work until I get that done.
Boss: Don't worry, I'll go get it during next week.
Next week comes and goes....
Teacher: Did you get that E-2 yet?
Boss: No, too busy.
Teacher: I really don't like to work until I get my E-2. It's illegal. Why don't I go do it tomorrow myself.
Boss: No, you will miss work. Don't worry, I know someone at immigration. Good friend. Don't worry.
Another week comes and goes....
Teacher: Where is my E-2?
Boss: Still not finished.
And so the cycle continues ...........until weeks later immigration raids the school, the boss refuses to pay a bribe, and the teacher is busted and given an exit order or deported for teaching illegally. |

We all choose out own fates...
Teacher: I'd don't have my stamp. I can't work. I have to go to Immy today.
Boss: You can't miss work...
Teacher: Sorry man, I'll be back in a few hours.
Boss: Stop!
Teacher: Kiss off! |

Whooooooaaaa wait a minute!
Are you saying that it's ILLEGAL to work AFTER you have the E2 visa in your passport, but you've not been to Immi for your ARC?????????????
So it's NOT just an E2 you need in order to work legally, but instead it is an ARC that you need to have to work legally??????
I've never heard that before..........so can you clarify. Because I mean the immigration office in Omokgyo where you go for your ARC.
As far as I know, and the paper they gave me in Osaka said this as well, taht you have 90 days before you need an ARC.... |

in case you are ever caught in a frustrating multiple dead end wild goose chase trying to obtain immigration's phone number like i have done many times in the past few years:
it's on the front of your ARC.
boy did i ever feel like a loser when someone pointed that out to me.
and khyber, you are right - god's a socialist.
cept there IS no god. |

I wasn't aware that foreigners could pick & choose which branch of the Immigration Office to "do their business" based on proximity or preference, but were automatically assigned one (where their files are physically stored) according to their address. No?
Anyway, I'm expecting thread after thread next year about bosses causing teachers Immigration Office headaches because they won't let them take time off work. Oh, it's utterly unreasonable for them not to, and completely self-in-the-foot-shooting. But still. Thread after thread, I predict. |
