I'm leaning that direction myself, but if I'm staying in hostels it seems all I can bring with is a backpack. Not my ideal situation. I'm curious to read Pootie's treatise. |

It is true that in reading some of the comments in this thread one could easily get the impression that some folks, who have never set foot (or just arrived) in South Korea or even taught one class there, know far more about the place than those who have lived and taught in South Korea for many years.
Ajarn Miguk now writes: "Possibly, possibly not...." |

I did figure that too. If I'm going to be wandering around SK for a couple of weeks, then I ain't gonna want to be lugging no big ol' suitcase around with me all the while. Rucksack it will have to be then! Won't be able to pack all the important things though, like my 4" sequinned platform heels and my favourite teddy. Just not enough room.... Sorry ted.
I reckon it will be worth your time Merrilee. I take it you're female and know how to use your feminine wiles? You'd land a much better job by approaching the schools directly, and in person, and then charming your way into a position. Obviously your credentials and experience will be a big help too!
At least you also have more peace of mind by going out and checking things out before committing to a contract. It's just too risky otherwise. Looks like we're all on tenterhooks waiting for Pootie's sagely advice!! |

Ajarn Miguk: Oh well, at least Pooty is still brimming with enthusiasm! Good on him for being selfless enough to share his 'advice'. Even if it is maybe a little premature or misguided.
I'm not that credulous! I only say that it's 'possible', because I've spoken wth others by PM who have landed on their feet in a similar spectacular fashion. They have taught out in South Korea for a good few years, even though I'm still looking into the ESL world from my laptop back in the UK. I really can't claim to know anything other than what I've picked up from you old timers. |

Exactly why I wrote what I did. Verify the facts before you jump too quickly into any job. Because if you don't, the result could be a very unhappy situation.
By the way, in the event you are laboring under the misconception, "enthusiasm!" and "old timers" are not necessarily mutually exclusive terms or conditions. Some of the most "enthusiastic!" teachers and colleagues I have encountered over the years have been "old timers."
In fact, you can often see some of that "enthusiasm!" displayed right here.
Good luck in finding a great job. They do exist.
P.S. "Credulous" That comes from Latin, right? As in, "Experentia Docet." Ah, those ancient Romans seem to have had a word and term for everything. |

There used to be luggage storage at Kimpo airport...is there any at Incheon? Or can you go stash your things at Kimpo?
There are hotels/yogwan in Seoul in the W20,000 range where you can bring all the luggage you want. |
