I find it odd how many commercials say "Dae Han Min Guk" --- is that just to show it was made here or is about here...?

and how many are about smells: this and that....

they seem obsessed with smells! and we already know they are obsessed with dae han min guk.

After the 100(nth-power)th time I heard that Auctions commercial with the opera singers competing for the lowest note (grrr, I'm getting irritated just thinking about it), I swore I would never sit through it again. Nowadays I just hear "Aaaaaaahh *switch!*"

The one that really gets me these days is a commercial featuring two good-looking young people who start frolicking in a tub of water and bubbles, as the back-up singers sing "Sa-ba, sa-ba!" It bugs me because I can't figure out for the life of me what they are trying to sell!

As for the seemingly deliberate mispronunciations mentioned earlier (e.g., Hazzy's=Haji's), I'd bet my life that I've heard "Magic" pronounced "Massic" by a very Western-sounding woman. Why? Whhhhyyyyyyy? Shouldn't that be palatable to the Korean tongue? I would understand , so why the bungled "g"?

Good question kermo,

It seems they will use konglish pronunciation of English words whenever they just throw a few English words into the mix. Then they're really as much Korean as not anyway. Why pronounce them properly when your whole audience is korean and speaks konglish better than English?

===========================================

I also dislike the one where the guy is at Bennigan's and freaking out about how delicious and cheap the food is.

There's a new most-hated commercial for me... a jin ramyun commercial I saw today prior to watching Batman Begins.

It's the usual set up... some guy (probably famous, but I had no idea who he was) starts yelling into the camera, and then starts eating a bowl of ramyun. Mind you, he doesn't eat it like you or I might... rather, he shovels it into his mouth in a most unsightly manner, all the while making some of the most disgusting eating sounds imaginable.

I know... I know... this probably sounds like just about every ramyun commercial made in Korea. But the big screen and the theater sound system made this one particularly bad. Far from encouraging me to go out and eat some ramyun, I felt like I was gonna lose my lunch.

I think the SKII Whitening source comercial takes the cake for me. I want to go ballistic every time I see it.

Its the one with some I guess famous lady blabing about her face and how SKII Whitening Source makes her face whiter or some garbage like that. But at the end of the commercial you have some guy say SKII Whitening Source, but since its in Konglish it sounds like Whitening Sauce. WTF Do you put gravy on your face and scrub so you can look Whiter? Why would you want to look like porcelain doll any way.

Then again I don't find Asian women attractive any way, I guess its ok if you want to look like Michael Jackson.

I am also befu**led about the retardation of "Follow your H"...

The commercial I hate the most though, is the one for IOPE (I think).

It's of this old hag who is at this photo shoot and the whole time you can tell she is desperately trying to make her eyes look really big and pout and she just ends up looking weird and creepy. Even in the print ads I have seen she just winds up looking very surprised. I don't know why she was chosen either, as she is not even MILF material.

Also: O Shee N. Nombah One Channel.

The only commercial I like is the new one for Naver. What is it of anyway? All I know is that some chick from the 70s in a hanbok is talking about stuff in a cool voice and then some cute music plays and they end with a gong. Pretty awesome.

Have you seen the one where the odd-looking girl moves her eyes inward and outward and speaks in a weird voice, sounding almost Chinese? (Empas.... "gum shek"....) That one is annoying, but sort of funny because it is so strange.

I think if you sent a bunch of Korean commercials/TV clips back home, it would give folks a glimpse into how different it is here.

damn KTF...with the guy screaming "TAE-han-MIN GOOK!" several times in a row. And then, they play it again. Rolling Eyes

The new Baskin Robbins one is annoying too. The guy and the girl on opposite sides of the street, and the light won't change or there's too many cars or something--so they start running desperately with these looks of ultimate anguish on their faces...c'mon, people. It's ice cream.

I think it's the music in the background that makes that one so weird.

I can't believe no one mentioned the "KTF - LIFE IS WONDERFUL" commercial.. Repeated 6-7 times by a different annoying voices..

Or how about the commercial that has the slogan "Change the life"

I really get pissed about the way that the voiceover people mispronunce English slogans.. or mess up the grammar.. I mean these are big companies.. they have money.. there's no excuse for getting it wrong.. They should hire one of us to do them.

has anyone seen the ads at Gangnam station?? The chocolate ones...

they're selling a phone right...with these slogans..

"I chocolate you"

"Love of chocolate"

"Let's further by chocolate"

It is so incredibly absurd it's painful. WTF!? What does it mean? What does chocolate have to do with the phone?? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???
