Does anyone know what the procedure is for a Canadian married to a Korean, living in Korea, to get a divorce?
I fear the worst may come to pass. Any advice as to what I should expect? |

You not only made the mistake of coming back to Korea, as you wrote, but you also married a Korean too?
I don't believe it for a second.
If you are sincere, I can't help you. Fortunately for me, this is some imformation I'll never need. |

Maybe it was for the spouse.
(edited to reflect the fact that, as the OP used the interchangeable term, so should I have). |

Hmm, if the OP and gunboy are indeed the same, then psychological help is desperately needed. |

Knew a fella who divorced a Korean gal.....
I believe he told me that divorce is pretty easy in Korea....just go and file. If it's uncontested and there are no children, I believe you can get divorced in one day (this was his situation...they had no kids). It'd probably be very tricky if you have kids, because even though Korean law favors the Korean male, the foreign male would probably get no custody.
Once you divorce in Korean, you have to get the divorce decree translated in English so you can have it legalized back home (this is U.S law anyway). You might want to contact an English-speaking family lawyer in Korea, if you go through with this. There should be a list of lawyers on your embassy's website. So many legal loopholes nowadays. Sorry, this is all I know and I'm not Candadian. Juust heard this briefly from one American guy.
***I'm sorry to hear about this. Have your wife and you considered counselling? I hope you two can work it out. |

Get a letter of release from your spouse.
If she exists of course and if you have not been simply puffuing smoke out of your rear end with this post and your previous post about employement problems. |

The op is new to the board - only 4 posts. Obviously, he/she is currently having a tough time, will be quitting his/her job, will probably get a divorce, and will be leaving the country.
Why would you and some others go nuts with the joking. Is it so hard for you to believe that someone could actually divorce a Korean considering how perfect they and their wonderful country are?
I personally don't have any advice and have not heard a lot of info on the process. Obviously this board is not the place for that advice.
Good luck. |

It sounds entirely plausible to me. If I was married to a native in any country and was going through a divorce, I would more than likely be leaving the country. |
