I'm planning on buying a digital camera but I know jack sh-it about them. Can anyone tell me what all the jargon means, like pixels, megabytes. I just want a cheap one that takes decent pictures with maybe a 40mm zoom lens. What are some of the more reliable brands?

Sorry man. Links only. Your questions are way to vague for a real post....who has time to post what hundreds before have in more detail?

I am a fan of Canon, Sony, and some Nikon cameras.

How much money do you want to spend. What are you interested in? Tiny pocket-sized camera? A camera that is inexpensive that takes good pics, and doesn't have to be the smallest?

What do you plan to take photos of?

I am guessing a guy like you should take a look at Sony's P100, P150, or W-5. There is also a newer Sony budget model DSC-W15. It is a medium to small-sized camera, and not very expensive, but it takes fabulous 5 megapixel pics, and you can screw in add-on lenses, I think. I was very impressed with this camera, and it can be had for around 350,000 won. The LCD is large, too. Oh, and it also uses rechargable AA batteries, or ones you buy. You don't have to worry about being in the middle of nowhere and charging a proprietary battery.

Sony does a nice job with color. Canon is nice, too, and their photos are sharp.
