does anyone else think that blogs are lame? not to be totally binary about this, but, why would you talk about the latte you bought from starbucks? i guess i don't have to read it.

i was thinking that blogs might be a new communication tool, but really i think that they actually broaden the distance between people.

That's like saying
"Are magazines a good thing? All they do is talk about makeup and fashion"

Blogs can be anything from this:
A hilarious fat potty-mouthed New Yorker

to this

sarcastic English churl touring around South America

to this

high-class London call girl telling all

to this

Magistrate giving his own take on justice

...well you get the point.

Your 'broaden the distance' point is silly too, how can putting up photos and text about what I'm doing every day possibly broaden the distance between me and my family / friends who live thousands of miles away?

I do agree, however, that I have no interest in what you bought from Starbucks. Maybe blogging isn't for you?

My favorite kind of TV program are those real-life documentaries where a film crew observe a normal person doing normal things. I find that fascinating. It's much more interesting than what the famous get up to. Real people have unbelievable quirks and idiosyncracies.

So I've started reading blogs lately. Not much. That guy in New York which Swiss James links is very funny. He writes really well too.

I don't see how blogs could be lame....Are they something to be judged as cool or uncool? They're just something.

the broadening the distance point is in reference to how people will post very personal information on their blogs, yet they won't talk about them with their friends. it's easy to pretend to be open minded when you're hiding behind a computer screen.

it is true, there are lots of blogs out there, i guess i haven't found the one for me yet.

I've found most blogs, while not eveil, a waste of time-however, if blogs work out the narcissism, go for it.

There are only a few that I really enjoy reading, or looking at (in the case of photoblogs). Most of the ones I see I usually don't go back to, unless there is a personal connection to the blogger or outstanding (at least to me) information.

But I can say this...as lame as it may seem to others, since I started one recently, I have found posting and adding to it to be quite addicting.

The only reason I started a blog was for the more self-indulgent or off-off topic stuff I couldn't post here.

Plus I can swear like no tomorrow.

Most bloggers are self-indulgent bores, but like one poster already said, whatever gets your demons out. Peemil's is the only one worth the time around here.

99% of everything is crap. Blogs, published fiction, tv shows, movies. There are some nice blogs I read and some I look at because the writer is a woman and she posts a lot of pictures of her boobs.

Just wait until I get my blog up and running. You already know that my wit and writing skills are far superior to the average 84-year old Korean bubble-permed ajumma, but this will have pics too. Lots of them. Really eye-watering stuff too, from my personal collection.

Plus the gem that I know you've all been waiting clammy-handedly for: Dear Ajumma: The HA Problem Page. Sadly the Korea Herald turned down my application due to what their loser editor termed "inappropriate content of highly dubious origin", but what does that schmuck know, eh?

I'm waiting for your letters!
