Thinking of heading over to Japan for the Sonic Festival thing. I am sure plane tickets are either outrageous at that time, or already sold out.
Has anyone done the ferry from Busan over to that Fukoko place? Heard it was three hours. True? How much?
Then train from the Fukokouaaaa place to Tokyo. Speed, Cost, possible? |

2 hours 40 minutes, costs about 180,000-220-000 including accomm:
Its not a bad trip, and a heck of a lot cheaper than flying at the moment. |

I got my tickets at www.kangsantravel.com. Good place. They speak decent English and had my tickets waiting for me the morning I left at the Busan ferry terminal. They also have the package tour (roundtrip and 1 night hotel for about 210,000 won). |

I too recommend Kangsan...
One bonus is you can buy the Japan rail Pass that includes all of the fllowing...
Ferry ticket to Fukuoka and return...
Unlimited train travel for a week in japan(except on the super-express noizumi bullet trains - all other bullets Ok)
400 000 won!!!!
-Bargain of the century... |

400 000??
Are you serious??
Considering the Rail Pass is practically half of that, that's a really sweet deal!
P.S. It's NOZOMI bullet train, not Noizumi -- ha ha, which sounds like a Noisy Mr Koizumi! |

Thats i show much i paid in February...went all over japan and used Kyoto as a base.
Don't even have to buy tickets...just flash your pass and walk through, it was awesome.
here is the page... http://www.kangsantravel.com./info_railpass_japanrailpass.php
It says Except the Beetle which is true...you use a different ferry between Busan and Fukuoka(the Jebi) which is just as fast(3 hours) and cost 30 000 won extra or something on top of the rail pass for a return ticket.... |

I was also wanting info on getting to Tokyo so that's awesome about the rail pass and ferry package together. I contacted Kangsan travel and they were very helpful. There is a flight for about 400,000 right now but then you don't get the train pass and it costs about 300, 000 from what I have heard. So if I book can I prebook the times for the ferry and trains etc and return or can I leave it a bit more open for the way back?? When you took the train from Fukuoka to Tokyo did you have to transfer at all and how long did it take??? Is there a web site to check times etc????
The only thing is that I will have to find my way to Busan as I live about 2 hours from Seoul so that is another expense. There isn't a ferry from Incheon to Japan by any chance??
Anyway thanks for the info. PS what is this sonic festival and when is it??
All the best!!!!!!!!! |

You can prebook the ferry yes, but the trains you can't but the Hikari(which is the fastest bullet train you can catch on a rail pass) leaves for Tokyo every 45 - 60 minutes so you don't need to reserve a seat...if you are worried you can reserve at Hakata(Fukuoka) train station
Yes you have to transfer the train at Osaka but it is very easy - just that the train stops at Osaka and you just get on the connection to Tokyo..
it will take about 6-7 hours from Fukuoka to Tokyo
Here is the page with all the timetables on it...
