Booers, Superhero! It may not be YOUR favorite, but it is a sport. |

reading the bbc site, it appears both softball and baseball have been cut, and the IOC refused the applications of sports such as Karate to be entered.
so now there will be fewer sports at London 2012.
now we just need to get rid of beach volleyball... |

Here is a list of sports in the olympics from this site:
http://www.olympic.org/uk/sports/index_uk.asp
Aquatics
Archery
Athletics
Badminton
Baseball
Basketball
Boxing
Canoe / kayak
Cycling
Equestrian
Fencing
Football
Gymnastics
Handball
Hockey
Judo
Modern Pentathlon
Rowing
Sailing
Shooting
Softball
Table Tennis
Taekwondo
Tennis
Triathlon
Volleyball
Weightlifting
Wrestling
Now, of that list, there are several I'd have cut before baseball and softball if the criteria is athleticism:
Archery, equestrian, shooting, and even weightlifting come to mind. In baseball and softball, you have to be able to run, throw, catch, hit, slide, think, strategize, be flexible, and have coordination. I think baseball and softball have these sports beat.
However, if the criteria is internationalism (is that even a word?), well it might be a different story. Perhaps the cutting of baseball and softball is an equalizer for the 'poorer countries', but as mentioned in the article linked above, it's especially a big blow to a women's sport (softball) after much to-do about getting women more involved in the olympic movement. |

LOL. I get my kicks off watching that silly sport. I can't imagine who trains their whole life for that. |

LOL no offense mate. I just dislike seeing such an everyday word mangled so often.
Typos are OK, but when it happens so often, it ain't just typos. |

Arm wrestling needs to be an Olympic sport, for sure.

How about the fastest onanist to achieve an orgasm? Though, the judges for the female end of the competition have their work cut out for them.
Lots of cheating in that field, I hear.

Curling is as legitimate a sport as any other one. It's been my dream for some time to represent Ontario in the Labatt Briar as the fifth, drinking beer in the stands, or as the lead, sweeping and setting up ends.
But if I had my druthers, I'd get Snooker into the Olympics. And the best part is, it's neither a summer or winter sport, so it could be in both Olympics. Now that sport is the ultimate in skill and precision and hand eye co-ordination. World class athletes train for six hours a day and so do snooker players. No difference. |

Have you guys actually played rugby? It's a damn violent sport, and the body needs about a week to recover after a game; and even then you often have to carry niggling injuries into the next match.
There's no way on earth an international rugby tournament with pool matches and finals could be properly completed in two and a bit weeks. The injury toll would be massive, and come gold medal round, you'd be watching a bunch of third and fourth string players running around.
Or are you guys talking about rugby sevens?...a game which is considered more of a merry diversion than an actual "sport" by the rugby community (except maybe in Fiji and Hong Kong ). |

7's Rugby is taken pretty seriously nowadays. Its seen as a place where future full internationals can improve their ball handling and running skills. i think it would be a great olympic sport. |
