Been here over 8 years. Little girl in a restaurant at the next table turned and was staring at me. Her grandmother lightly tapped her on the shoulder and told her that it wasn't polite to stare at people and to turn around and face the table. I was so shocked that I almost choked on my musili as I snapped my neck.

Any other firsts?

I was in my friend's car waiting for her to come back from the store buying fruit when I looked out the side window of the car and saw this little boy (maybe 10) walk straight out of a restaurant and stand on the edge of the kerb with his pecker hanging out peeing. I was pretty shocked as he just strolled up like it was the urinal or something. Then he looked up and saw me, so proceeded to take a step forward and started peeing on the side of the car!! Shocked Shocked

Didn't last long as my friend's husband saw him and started screaming at him. At which point the little boy got such a shock he dropped 'everything' and started crying, all the while continuing to wee down the front of his trousers.

Definitely a first for me!

I was at E-Mart once about 2-3 months ago. Some man was pointing at me. I thought maybe I taught the daughters he was with and he was saying look it's your teacher. Nope. 'Look girls, a real live foreigner. Look, look before he gets out of sight.'

The girls couldn't have cared less about seeing me but the man was acting like I was some rare or mythical creature. I felt like such a freak. He was so indiscreet about it too.

Well I was tearing around on the enduro bike in an hour break during the day at the haggie. And on an offroad near some apts and a small mountain was a spider.

Brown, as big with legs outsretched, as a baseball. Not that much volume of course, but a hefty spider nevertheless. And it was stunned. Nearby was a malbol, a wasp, which was hanging around after having just stung it.

The wasp, having paralyzed the spider, then injects its eggs. The eggs hatch and the larvae feed off the stunned spider. I'd heard about this but there it was happening. Quite a drama.

An ajussi bumped into me and said,

'oh, excuse me. Im sorry.'

no glare, no stare, no embarrased laugh.

i was almost too bef***led to reply with a 'no problem.'

god bless daechi-dong.

is "befuddled" a swear word where you come from? or did you mean to say "befuckled"?

I saw a father on the Gwangju subway explaining to his two children that the arrows embedded on the floor show you how to stand to the side so people can get off the train before more people get on.

I saw an ajumma help her little grandson pee in the street. And when she thought nobody was looking, she knelt down in front of him and stooped down low to catch his pee in her mouth...nah, just kidding.

I saw and bought canned tomato soup at Home Plus in Cheongju. It's something small, but it's the first time I've ever seen tomato soup in Korea.

The other day I caught a subway train from Dongdaemun, and when the doors opened, the group (10+) people waiting formed orderly lines on either side and let the other passengers off first.

I figured it must just be a light blue line thing

I live near an elementary school. As I walked down past, probably about 20+ elementary students walked right by me and said NOTHING. Not even a head turn in my direction!! Also, I walked by at least another 30+ high schoolers on the street.....again, NOTHING! And I live in small town Cheongju, not Seoul. Shocked

We have a cat and she frequently goes outside for a stroll, methinks she has a boyfriend (luckily she is neutred). Anyway, a few evenings ago, I walked down with Letty and the cat followed. There were some little kids playing around and a couple of adults stood there watching them as this was a road for cars.

Anyway, one of the little boys started coming up to our cat and wanted to shoot water on her from his water gun. I said *an du-ae* (ȵ sp?) gently once. He came closer and started pointing the gun at the cat.. I said an duae again... a bit louder. Then he shot the water out and I yelled at him. He froze and looked at me and I yelled hajeema. an duae. Finally one of the adults came over and took him away. Our cat escaped unscathed but why couldn't one of the adults have told him NOT to do it right from the beginning?

Living way way out here in the countryside, I see all kinds of neat, never seen that before in Korea, nature thingies on my way through the rice paddies to and from school.

Seen a big green\brown metre long snake sprawled out sunning itself on the path to my school.

Seen a feral cat eating a giant bull frog.

Seen a feral cat attacking one of those white herons that live in the rice paddies and getting it's ass kicked by said heron.

etc.
