English Programs Draw More Complaints
An increasing number of students going abroad to study English have complained about violations of contracts and requests for additional costs by agencies arranging study programs. The Korea Consumer Protection Board (KCPB) said Wednesday that it has received a total of 90 inquiry telephone calls from customers, which were related to English camps abroad or English learning programs, in the first half of this year.
"I paid 5 million won ($4,820) to send my son to Australia early this year through an agency for a 4-week English camp. The agency said three would be classes for three weeks, but the classes only ran for one week," said Lee Ok-hee, one of the victims. She insisted that her son's boarding house owner provided a non-educational environment, wherein drinking, smoking and playing poker surrounded her 13 year old.

Did the foreign programs misrepresent themselves? Or did the Korean salespeople for the programs misrepresent the foreign programs? |

If it was the school misreperesenting itself then it's a matter of contacting the Better Business Bureau ( do they have anything similar here?) |

This thread is on the WRONG forum.
This forum is for issues about living in Korea for ESL teachers.
This thread belongs over on Current Events where a lot of interesting but irelevant Real Reality threads are housed.
.
.
.
(And I first thought this was about more anti-Sex in the City by the locals and how English television programming may be affected. Which would a relevant thread for this forum.) |
