Has anyone been pushed out or fired for their sexual orientation? |

i am gay as well, and pretty open with my co-workers. sorry to hear about your situation. i am at a public school, and if i'm not mistaken, ther are korean laws against orientation discrimination. perhaps you could check with efl-law.com.
peace,

Not my situation. Sorry I didn't state clearly. Just curious about it. Wonder if there has ever been a case of someone taking that to court in Korea. I suppose there is a precedent if there is a law? I am open about myself too. Some kid in my hagwon years back called me ddonggochu day after day before I learnt what it meant. I asked the Korean teachers what it meant, but no one would tell me at school. Maybe out of embarassment? The kids would laugh and look shocked at first, but after a while they just laughed. |

I used to have a gay co-worker here- kept it all secret.
He used to make up all sorts of stories about his supposed girlfriend back home. Meantime he convinced his director to get him and his partner a large, single appartment, and a double bed (wonjangnim thought it was a great idea to save cash by having 2 best friends sharing accom).
ultimately the bosses daughter fell in love with him, as he was such a flambouyant character.
It was then that he fled Korea, citing the fact that his bride back home wanted to marry him in a hurry. |

I had a co worker a while back who seemed flamboyantly gay. He simply managed to avoid all conversations about dating and marriage, and the Koreans didn't seem to pick up on it. In fact, he was one of the most popular teachers at the school |

I had a gay friend who came to Korea with a female friend of his. At first the school thought they were a couple.
He made the mistake of telling a Korean coworker that he was gay. The school fired both of them a few days later saying it was because they were not good teachers.
They found another job pretty quickly but it was an unpleasant lesson to learn. |
