The Greeks were expelled from Turkey.

The pieds noir from Algeria.

In Turkey, it were the Greeks. Except the Turks and Greeks were at war with one another (it was started by Greece too). I hope he isn't refering to the Armenians as well; their genocide makes the holocaust look tame in comparison (in numbers that is).

As far as Algeria goes, all the europeans got booted out in 1962. I'd say most left willingly once the French left. Not exactly the same.

What LC failed to mention is all the Arab nations who pressured out all the Jews and Greeks out of their own countries (esp. Egypt, which used to be a lot more diverse than it is today).

This is turning into a bit of a pathetic pissing contest. Show some decorum folks.

I read some of the horrible BNP bs. Those guys are almost as bad as the shitebags who commited these hideous crimes in London.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4670099.stm#friday

Above.. A very brave young London lady speaks out about tolerance, the strength of all Britons, how her local Muslim community is helping out. A much nicer read than that nasty fascist stuff from a thoughtful, young Londoner.

It is not a time to hate. It is a time for action, and hate clouds clarity of thought. I was very pleased to see that they (probably) already caught the bombmaker in Egypt and they're hot on the heels of one of the masterminds of the hideous act!

A few lunatics have firebombed mosques and other stupid stuff, but most Britons whatever their ethnic heritage are made of stronger stuff. Terrorists will not change the British way of life.

My point, Leslie, is that the cure would be worse than the disease- you couldn't do it without destroying the EU and UK (at least the UK as we know it). You're creating more problems without ever effectively tackling the original problem.

To put it another way- I'm not a 'put flowers in gunbarrels' hippy peacenik, it's simply that 'Fortress UK' and 'Fortress America' solutions will not work for these problems- the borders are already too porous, the societies too diverse.

What do you think these illegal immigrants are doing? Are they sitting around making bombs? Stealing all the jobs from honest Britons and Americans? Carjacking and B & Eing their way to a happy retirement?

I don't think the problem is the terrorism itself, but the ends the terrorists hope to achieve: supplanting Western, European Civilization with Islam. That, more than anything, will destroy the EU and the UK as we know it.

If you're really worried about a world wide Muslim vs. Christian armageddon then the best thing you could do right now would be to move to Michigan and join a militia.

Better to meet these things head on, don't you think?

I suppose you're right. If you honestly believe that's the way of the future shouldn't you be out blowing up mosques and such?

I'd rather we not let them in to begin with. But some mosques should be closed down, that's for sure.

So you admit it's a bad idea having them in our countries. That's the first step, you know.

Laughing That's a pretty big leap of logic to infer that from what I wrote.
Now I'm wondering if you're not a master troller rather than a master-debater.
If you are, then sir I salute you (but personally I try to be serious in the current events forum, after all we are talking about people dying in bomb blasts here).

The British police are doing an excellent job, I have to say: outstanding.

But prevention is better than cure.

Watching muslims debating it all on the streets of Leeds was interesting. One was saying he couldn't bear to see other muslims killed in other parts of the world by the US coalition. Effectively, an attack on a muslim anywhere and for whatever reason, is seen as an attack on all. Its a bit like pruning a triffid.

What British muslims are saying all over is that the problem of terrorism will only be solved when the west stops backing Israel, pulls out of Iraq and Afghanistan, leaves Chechnya alone, etc etc etc. Ie, nothing short of a total capitulation/surrender on the part of the west is what they're hinting at. And then everything would be rosy, I suppose. Rolling Eyes
