BEWARE OF THE HAKWON IN BUSEOK (YEONGJU)

The name of the HAKWON is IVY ENGLISH SCHOOL based in Buseok myeon,Yeongju. I taught at this HAKWON since last September, the school use to have 4 Korean teacher and one foreign teacher. All the Korean teacher resigned coz the Director was not paying them, i was left alone working overtime without a pay. The Director use to have some personal financial problems,he took the money that he suppose to pay the teachers to pay his debt.I was not paid for 4 months,he used to lie to me about the economic situation here in Korea as if i dont know, while collecting millions from the Kid's parents. The Hakwon moved to Yeoungju ,things went from bad to worse. He wanted another Foreign teacher, a friend of mine send his documents so that he can make him a visa. He kept my friend waiting for 5 months. On June i gave him a notice that i wont sign any contract unless he pay all my monies. When he suppose to pay me on the 10th of each month he went to Seoul to see his girlfriend. When he came back i will always remind him that on the 10th is a pay day.He will respond by saying he doesn't have money and he will pay me double salary the next month. He never stick to his promises. We always argue ,he use the money that he suppose to pay me buying ceilings and other material turning one of the classroom into 2 bedrooms for himself and his son,how pathetic. He send my friend a contract offering him $700 a month, what an insult. I phoned my friend telling him the situation in my workplace,he decided not to come.He asked me to keep his documents with me. I was left with 2 weeks to finish my contract, he demanded my friend's documents i refused to give him.During the day he told the kids not to come to my class,When i approach him asking what's going on,he told me i'm fired because i refused to give him my friend's documents. That was a lame excuse i've ever heard. He is now a director cum teacher who doesn't even have a College Degree.[

Beware of this scamster i dont want any English teacher to go through what i experienced in that Hakwon. The housing condition is terrible,no kitchen.A "kitchen" is a classroom corridor. The toilets are these ones without running water.thanks i dont have malaria. BEWARE !!![/b]

Shocked Umm...before we delve into the issues concerning that school, can we take a moment to rule out that you are not a Korean posing as a foreign teacher? Because some of the writing looks like a lot of classic Korean errors when using english. If you are a Korean, please indicate that, so foreign teachers can weigh that factor into their job-hunting efforts. I just think it'd be important to rule out that this is not some form of slanderous act of Korean recruiter vs. school or competitor school vs. competitor school, as it's not coming off as the usual teacher vs. school gripe.

I'd say that was definitely a Korean trying to pass themselves off as a disgruntled foreign teacher.

Even if it is a Korean posting as a foreigner thanks for the tip and sorry to hear about what happened. Go to the labour board and get your pay, you deserve it and about your friends documents tell the police.

To Korean posters, for future reference...

The Director use to have some personal financial problems,

a friend of mine send his documents so that he can make him a visa [probably the clearest indicator this was written by a non-native speaker].

On June [this, too]

i gave him a notice that i wont sign any contract unless he pay all my monies [not typically used in the plural].

When he suppose to pay me on the 10th of each month he went to Seoul to see his girlfriend. [don't go overboard on the details...any easy way to detect a lie is when the speaker insists on meticulously creating so many details to make the story look real...]

When he came back i will always remind him that on the 10th is a pay day.

He will respond by saying [improper use of the future tense]

He never stick to his promises [third-person conjugation]

he use the money that he suppose to pay me

He send my friend a contract

i refused to give him.

That was a lame excuse i've ever heard. [nice effort here, but should have been a superlative]

who doesn't even have a College Degree.[how many hogwon directors can be accused of this?]

The housing condition is terrible[plural needed here]

The poor guy obviously isn't a "Native Speaker" for sure but he did get screwed pretty badly.

Who cares? We are all so cool.
