I'm not sure what to do?
I found out this weekend that my work colleague was dismissed previously for sexual abuse with his students. I'm not sure whether this actually happened, but I have noticed that since he has arrived he seems to take an unhealthy interest in the older female students!
The thing is I don't want to be painted with the same brush, if he is caught or suspected of wrong-doing.
Should I just keep quiet?
Find another job?
Tell my boss my concerns?

Please advise me. Sad

I agree. Get your facts right first before you start anything.

definitely get your facts right, but if you know for sure, don't keep quiet about it. obviously it will make life harder, but it is the right thing to do.

keep the job, but be extra careful. avoid any physical contact with the students. find out the truth if you can. might be tough. if your coworker is quilty of abusing a kid i doubt he will tell you the truth.

Like everyone else said, make sure you have your facts 100% straight before you do anything. Without knowing what type of academy / school your working at it's impossible to provide much advice.

Yeah, one is disgustingly immoral and wrong, and the other is just bad. The OP said sexual ABUSE. I doubt there are children involved, then there would be no question of what to do.

Why start slinging mud over something that is NOT your concern...unless it involves children.
What someone does with their life is their own business...even if it is unprefessional. Illegal? No.

With negative fallout over the Spectrum website plus other unflattering dittis played up by the ROK press; ESL teachers should exercise caution. Korea has become an even more scrutinized fish bowl placing Koreans into stranger danger mode for the enemy within. Professionalism has never been needed more than now. Think Bethems penteknicon and the all seeing eye.

If he's teaching adults, few adults on this planet are as "discerning," as mature Koreans with free-time. Unless your town is tiny, I dont think there could be problems unless he's an AH and tars your rep with the same brush. Guilty by association.

Kids are a different matter and deserve your concern.

Regarding "freely given info"; experience the artistry of a Puppet Master psychopath(I've met the best). Their lies and execution toward goals are unbelievable to behold, and sadly for everyone "connected," absolute tragedy. Beware of motives.

Question the person as to where they acquired this knowledge and keep on asking for verification and evidence. If, you are concerned and determined enough, to get involved.

The reality remains that "someone" has handed you a potentially serious allegation. Slander and defamation of character is not what you want leveled at you whilst, the gossip mongers retreat to their bolt holes; leaving "you" in charge.......... Can they (informant/s) back it up?

But, be careful. Truth can be elusive even when you know ALL of the combatants and observers who "were" there, etc, etc. And, when push comes to shove(authority becomes involved), watch them/instigators, back pedal faster than a NY minute as their facts become ambiguous and increasingly uncertain under focused scrutiny.

Since weve been in China(11mths), Ive personally been called to intervene in 3 incidents of which two incidents involved local barney fiefs, and six Embassies (almost seven including mine) . B.S. can be incredible.

BTW: hope his female adult students are non-refundably fugly, if he does eventually date any of his students.

My Condolences.
