If I complete my contract and i was entitled to return home plane ticket, I decide not to return but work at a different hakwon am I entitled to compensation for that return ticket even if not full face value?

Why the hell not? If they don't like it, tell 'em it's in the contract. If they still don't like it, tell them to buy a ticket and get the receipt for "the books" even if they'll have to pay a small fee for the refund. Go to a travel agency and get a price for the return back to your hometown and show it to your boss. If the stupid airlines allowed a year and a week for the return portion, most people wouldn't have these problems anyway. Also as a last resort, lie to them and tell them that you decided to go home and get the refund yourself. I hate when places try to weasel out of contract conditions. If it says "return airfare" in your contract, you should be entitled to said. It's none of their business whether you stay or not.

If they couldn't arrange something reasonable like a cheaper ticket to Japan or Thailand I'd just ask for the return ticket anyways. Once they've paid the 800,000+ or whatever to NA or the UK you can go and renegotiate, and even the stupidest Korean could see that 400,000 to Japan return plus 100,000 cancellation fee costs them less than a million to Halifax or wherever.

If your contract states "return airfare" then I think you should be paid for the return.

However, the first two contracts I had stated clearly, "no cash will be given in lieu of a return ticket. If the instructor remains in Korea working for another institution, the return portion of the airfare will NOT be paid out in cash or any by other means."

Both times, my NEW contract was not willing to pay for anything other than the one-way home, either. So, I chose to take a month off between contracts - the first school paid for me to go home, the second school paid to get me back again.

Just don't tell them your future plans.....

Just say you are going home for a week if you have to...

I have finished at 2 different schools and told them i was going home when i wasn't.......it is on a need to know basis, as long as they think you are going home for at least a vacation then they will be happy...

If they find out afterwards that you lie they will get over it....

Just get the plane ticket and then refund it without telling them.

I have been able to cash in a plane ticket before. Actually, I cashed in the domestic leg to Kimpo, since it was much easier to take the shuttle from my city to Incheon than to fly to Kimpo and then take the shuttle in Incheon.
