|

I was informed today that i will be starting an afternoon class for 3 year olds...umm....i mean 4 years olds....my director gave me an option of drawing from the current curriculum, which came with no activities just books and flash cards, or i can order one from the net of my choice. She said she wants the classes to be really fun and have lots of activities like Canadian/American kindergartens...she wants to really impress this group more so than the kids i already teach in the kindy...
so my question is...because i have no experience with choosing cirriculum ...what should i look for or where could i find a curriculum that comes with activites for babies.....Canadian/American style....
Also does anyone where I can find the best songs for this age group?
Thanks. |

When I was doing some planning for my 'future' immersion kindie...pipe dram..but it was part of my master's course...
I purchase three great resource books...wife lost on a bus but I still have the other two...
The Complete Resource Book
(An Early Childhood Curriculum)
Pam Schiller Kay Hastings
and
The Creative Curriculum for Preschool
Diane Trister Dodge and others...
the lost one was a thematic book for preschool....
I have some ideas about how to structure your day as well if you want to pm me...where I will offer you my telephone number and we can talk if you want |

Add to the two above Creative Resources for the Early Childhood Classroom by Judy Herr and Yvonne Libby Larson. Also, Gryphon House provides an assortment of excellent early childhood resources. |

Why do they always think American/Can kindergarten classes are so exciting? |

I would recommend a US/Canadian Pre-K content-based ESL program, like Hampton-Brown's Avenues ( http://hampton-brown.com/onlinecatalog/products.asp?subID=75&groupID=42 )
If you can get them to order this, it comes with all kinds of great stuff (including songs), will be linguistically and developmentally appropriate, and should impress the director and parents. And you don't have to scramble around making/finding materials and activities. |

Does your director know what 4-year-olds do at school in NA? They don't go to kindergarten, they go to playschool. Why is it called 'playschool'? Because they're too young to be expected to do much learning, and it's mostly a chance to socialise and get used to participating in groups. I'd show her some NA playschool guidebooks. |

Kids hardly get a chance to be kids here. |

tell me about it. In February I was given a kindy/preschool class (ages 4-6) and told to teach American style. I sang songs, we played games, we made things. Parents complained hard core! Why weren't the babies crying form writing too long. Why weren;t they reading at age 4? Bah, just do it however you can get away with it. Just speaking English near them wil rub off. |
