So I started working at a kindergarten and after lunch I usually grab one of the easy reading books in Korean to pass the time. That is how I came across this little gem. It is a story in a book published by SamSung for reading by first grade Korean children. The main character in the story is a little 8 year old girl called Narae. The first part of the story talks about how she wants a p e n i s so she can do the business standing up like her daddy. She draw some pictures and argues with her mom so fortunately dad finally comes home and they have the family bath together where all her curiosities are answered. Lets take the story from here, with the whole family in the bath, as Narae is about to ask her father something.

 ƺ Ϳ Ҹ .
Narae put her hands around her fathers ears and whispered.
ƺ, ƺ ?
Daddy, can I touch daddys p e n i s? Shocked
 ׷ ϰ ݹ ȸ߾. ƺ ȥ . ϼ ó  ̾.
Narae regretted what she said. What if Daddy got angry? Maybe he would get rid of her like the dirty water down the drain.
Ǫϡ
Hahahahahaha (Daddys laughing)
ƺ ū Ҹ . , ߳.
Dad laughed loudly. Gee wiz what words!!
ƺ Ϳ Ҹ ߾.
Daddy put his hands around Naraes wears and whispered
ѹ 촣ơ
Its good if you touch it one time Shocked
ũũũũ
(strange Korean child laughter)
  ̻ϰ .
Narae laughed strangely
 ?
How the feeling?
   ó ε巯.
Its soft like when I touch Mommys breast. THANK GOD

Its not that there is anything particularly wrong with this but I find it a strange story to find in a book for 8 year olds and I wonder how parents back in the PC correct doldrums of the West would react if this was given to school age children?

Rest assured the book did say at the end of the story.

ʵ ó ƺ Բ .
Try to have a bath with mommy and daddy tonight like Narae did.

I just hope mummys home Twisted Evil

the story is weird but if you're gonna translate it, do a better job

Narae wanted to go into the drain like water (basically she wanted to crawl into a hole because she was scared her dad might be mad at her for asking)

Yes you're right . I quickly typed it and didn't focus on that part. That's not the controversial part

I will be more careful next time so as not to allow condescending aholes room to discourage someone learning Korean through fear of making a mistake. Perhaps people like you are the reason Koreans are afraid to speak English because they are not perfect at it.

Next time when someone asks 'If your gunna type Korean you should put English there too' we can all wait for you to provide the translation.

No, it's not ok. Pictures can be drawn and explanations made without real-life experience, especially for an 8 year-old. Am I the only one confused by sexual repression co-existing with the beyond-western obsession with sexuality (notice I did not say sex) in Korea?

Peace,
Daniel

YES!!! Look at all of the massage parlors, singing clubs, room salons, business clubs, etc. etc in one neighborhood. In my 'hood, within all of that stuff, there's a slew of motels. My friends explained to me that because a large percentage of Korean marriages are pre-arranged, outside affairs are ok as long as there's no love. Even Koreans I meet tell me they have several boyfriends and their husband has several girlfriends.

Are you talking about married people? I wonder what the rate of STD transmission is 'round these parts...

Hey, Flagwaver! What's your input? Razz

Anyone who is afraid to make a mistake while learning a language isn't going to learn the language.

She corrected you, bfd. She was right wasn't she?

She did correct minor errors, but his point was the content not the exact word for word translation.

No i don't think it is appropriate at all. If some one wants to write a book pertaining to kids sexual curiosity, that's fine. But i think that book was way over the line. i would discreetly remove the book from you school library, kids do not need to be reading that, especially in a school environment!

This is true, also

Yes she did (though I still don't know what bfd is and or if peony is male or female).

But

Is not supportive or ammeniable way to allow a student, wanting to accept constructive crititsm, to feel comfortable and confident in continuing to practice. I accept my mistakes, done on the fly, and actually do like 'error correction' style training but this was not a good example of 'error correction' technique. Furthermore I accepted my touchiness and made my peace. Thankyou (read sarcasm) for again trying to hijack the thread.

Exactly

Now to the actual point of my post for those who wish to comment.

Disclaimer: I am FUCKed at Korean.

How about this picture from a children's book we use at my hagwon. Are all children's book illustrators perverted? Is ]this ok? Blatantly obvious and its not the only weiner in there. Plus, there's some pretty bad grammatical errors ("I've the magic now" instead of I have the magic now).

I think they won't let me post this pic anymore. THe photo's at:
