|
|
I despise these camps with every ounce of my being. I've been given a classroom and photocopier and have to told to make it wonderful fun and exciting. They are a whole heap of work as I have to prepare 2 90 minute lessons a day from scratch (there are no books or cirrculum to speak of) In addition I'm also rehersing the competition kids for an hour as well.
So far:
Day 1.
Room that the camp is supposed to be in has no aircon despite assurances that there would be some. I throw a hissy fit and say I'm not teaching without aircon. On further pushing I find that there is aircon in the new classes so the class moves to the new wing and there is aircon for all.
Day 2.
The room with the aircon is right next door to the toilets which are literally getting ripped apart in preperation for the school to go co-ed next next year. Have to put up with construction literally right outside my window all morning and now have a raging headache. To make matters worse the construction is blocking the path between the teachers room and the classroom so I have to go back down stairs walk along the classroom and then walk back up again. I complain that's it too noisy to teach and get told I can move to a non aircon room or just suck it up for the next few days.
Gotta love that I have to have these conversations in Korean too.
Counting down until august 2nd when I'm rid of these horrible classes. |

Hate them too, although my experiences sound better. My coworker and good friend at the school asked me if I wanted to do the summer camp this year. Told her, "Well, uh, sure, okay, if you need me to". She said, "Oh no, I hate doing the summer camps, such a pain to organize them". Wiped my brow, smiled, and offered up praise to the Great English Monkey.
I'm never leaving this school.... |

Do summer CAMPS differ from summer ACADEMYS? I've not been here long and the one part of the job i was dreading was the camp, now i wish my life was JUST camps, we had to plan lessons at school before summer vacation began (only 5 lessons though) and now its simply a case of going into a class knocking the lesson out and retreatign to the airconditioned bliss of the office. When the lessons are done we go home, so yesterday I was finished by 10.40 today i didn't go in till 1.40. I really enjoy these, although the cost of filling my days with other stuff is mounting up
Whats the difference between this and summer camp? |

I don't think being Derreked quite covers it. More like sitting on a cactus for about three hours.
CLG this tylonel is for you! |

Lemonade is a good idea clg.
Monday is bannock, Tuesday is banana boats, Wednesday is banana custard, Thursday is stir fry, Friday is microwave popcorn and watching movies.

Especially when they give me the keys to the Home Economics classroom and it's brand spanking new industrial oven. Assa!
Gotta to love that I am actually being paid to play Ultimate Frisbee with my students and teach them to bake chocolate chip cookies and sing the Village People songs. |

I take you were more successful in your search for a frisbee than I was.(I ordered mine up though the internet from an American company)
The rules of Ultimate Frisbee are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_frisbee
Fairly simple and lots of fun. Korean students though will have a little trouble with the no-physical contact and fair play rules. |

I did a google search for the rules.
My co teacher found a place here in Korea that sells flying discs. Work as well as frisbees but they are made of nerf like material.
at least they're not a bunch of fat gay baseball watching losers |
