i just got back from Costco and picked up a container of protein mix. they only have chocolate flavor, but 36,000 for 6lbs is a great deal , especially since its made in the USA. im posting this because I know some people (including myself) were looking for protein a while back.

X, if i want to bulk up more, this is the way to go?

Can it be useful if I want to lose weight, but still get the protein I need while dieting?

I gave up on protein mix after seeing the prices, and decided eating a couple cans of tuna a day would be more fun. Where is the COSTCO? I haven't seen one since I lived in LA five years ago...

Whey is a very efficient protein but I gave up taking due to the prices here in Korea. Besides, if you're looking to bulk up, you'll need more than just protein. Try a carb mix.

Here's the protein shake I make for a lot less money. It has about 25 grams of protein, 4 grams of fat and 52 grams of carbs.

1/4 cake Silken tofu (like the stuff for sundubu)
1 cup Lowfat milk
1/4 cup dried millk powder (if you can find it)
Chocolate milk powder to taste.

For more carbs, put some dry oatmeal in a blender and grind it down to a fine powder, then add it to the above ingredients. This won't enhance the taste (trust me), but just guzzle it down, get on with your day, and think of the money you're saving. Alternatively, you can buy the grain powder they sell in the grocery stores here (Misgaru).

You can also add fruit instead of chocolate to vary the taste.

lb = pound, therefore lbs = pounds. sorry if that was confusing.

protein mix is a whey protein powder that you mix with water, milk, or anything else you like.

Derrek-i think taking this is a good way to add some protein to your diet, even if you're looking to lose weight. I'm not working out at the moment, but I feel really unhealthy, and I think a lot of this is due to the lack of protein in my diet.

Tuna is ok, but thats why this is called a 'supplement.' To supplement your diet. Plus, tuna can taste really gross if you eat it too often I think.

There are 90 servings in the container. Here are the specs for each serving:
Calories-120
Fat-1.5g
Choleserol-42mg
Total Carb -4g
Protein-22g

How is that cheaper? The protein shake comes out to 400 per serving, for 3g less protein than your recipe. If you eat enough rice with your meals here, you dont really need to add more carbs.

I'm looking for something low-fat that will fill me up, or help to, so i'm not hungry for snacking so much.

go to Costco.com, look up top for 'warehouse locator' , select korea, get the map. i think there are 3 or 4 in seoul.

Derrek- if you drink one of these shakes and eat a banana then you should be ok. The shake only has 4g of fat. This will give you some protein, the banana will give you the carbs for some energy, and its all healthy. Protein shakes are actually considered to an extra meal for people looking to bulk up. After taking one I'm not hungry for about 2 hours

Tuna contains mercury. Better to not eat several cans a day but maybe several cans a month only. Instead soybean milk, an egg or two and chicken breasts....lots of 'em.

Went there already and picked some up. I have to say, it tastes a lot better than that Prolab stuff from Namdaemun.

The problem with a lot of people on this board is that they don't own cars, so they can't really give directions to out of the way places. Anyways, there are five Costco's in Korea -- three in Seoul (Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu [in Gangnam]; Sangbong-dong, Chungrang-gu [in Gangbuk]; and Yangpyung-dong, Youngdeungpo-gu [nearby Mokdong Immigration office]; one in Daegu, and one in Daejon. If you're in Gangnam, the closest one is in Yangjae-dong:

Costco's Yangjae store can be found about a half kilometer west of the intersection of GangnamDaeRo (GN-DR) and YangJaeDaeRo (YJ-DR).

To get there from Gangnam, drive South on on Gangnam-DaeRo and continue driving south of Yangjae Station and south of the õ (Yangjae Stream).

At the intersection of GN-DR and YJ-DR, you'll see Hyundai/Kia's 25-floor corporate HQ building. Granted you are in the southbound lane on GN-DR, turn right on YJDR, and head west for 500m until you see Costco on your right-hand side.

(Parking in their above-level parkiing garage is FREE.)

Here's the link to other Costco sites in Korea, including maps (which aren't very good).
http://www.costco.com/Warehouse/Location.aspx?country=Korea

Good luck!
ps: The aircon in Costco is awesome!
