I'd like to be in as well - the hockey fantasy league that is. I haven't followed NHL hockey in a year or so (heh heh) but I'm sure I could get back into it, especially with a fantasy league to encourage me.
I've never been in a hockey fantasy league - do you get points for penalty minutes?
Is Gretzky gonna coach the Coyotes?
And I heard Crosby's gonna play with Lemieux - what a welcome to the NHL for the Next Great One! |

The NHL says it is going to crack down on obstruction. This time they really really really really mean it. With sugar on top.
Serious, if they want to open up the game just start calling interference. Of course the usual suspects (Cherry) will whine about all the penalty calls but it has to be done. |

This is a step in the right direction for the NHL.
The cap is an excellent concept. It will definitively slow down the ridiculous salary rise that was rampant in the past few years.
The rules changes are good in theory but it will all depend on how the refs call the games.
I agree most with the no ties rules. Ties were retarded and getting points for them was even more retarded, it led to teams not playing to win.
The shoot out is excellent as well.
Some teams will grumble about the cap (ex: Rangers and Leafs) but overall it was the smarters solution for the league. Teams that were managed smartly will not be hurt by the cap. Teams that tried to buy the cup with short term, high priced talent will have serious homework to do. The Leafs are one of those teams filled to the gills with old and expensive talent and few young prospects. They will have major cutting to do and that will be good for them in the long run as they will have to manage the team in a smarter way.
Teams likes the Oilers, Habs and Flames who were well managed will thrive in this system. |

do you really think the kid got what it takes to be labeled, 'the next great one?' the NHL is NOT the minors and i really doubt that this kid is of the same caliber of players as Lemieux and Gretzky. |

The IIHF just signed an agreement with the NHL which allows any player with a contract in Europe to bail for the NHL instead. That means, Pittsburgh's elite draft pick Evgeny Malkin, an incredible passer who shone at the World Championships this spring playing with and against the big boys (I saw three of Russia's games), could play this fall in the NHL.
Lemieux should play wing on Malkin's line, with Crosby converted to right wing. Two rookie of the year candidates getting jacked points playing with the HOFer.
But if I were a betting man, I'd say Lemiuex plays on Crosby's wing, and Malkin runs a line with Recchi, the other old skilled vet on the team.
I've never liked the Pens particularly. But it'd be hard not to interested in such a development. |

Bullshat my friend. Bob Gainey is gonna bring all these guys back to Montreal and restore the glory. It's beautiful that we got the smartest GM in the league. By the time he's finished scooping up FA's this offseason, we'll be the Cup favorites and you losers in Toronto will be looking up to us again as you always have. |

We got lucky there.
Gainey's first draft pick with the team was a Russian I believe... but a bit of a risk because of injury problems or maybe size? Anyone know how the kid's doing? Van Islander, got any information about that?

Yeah, this is what I'm talking about:
The Montreal Canadiens took what might be the most interesting gamble, selecting Andrei Kastsitsyn with the 10th choice. Kastsitsyn reportedly suffers from seizures and anxiety attacks (given the crushing pressure these teenagers are under, it's a wonder more of them don't display such symptoms). At one point he was believed to have epilepsy. So his health is an obvious question mark. On the other hand, many call him the best pure talent of the entire draft.
Then I found some stats where it looks like he's doing alright. What league is this?

Back on topic - Go Habs Go - I'm so Anti-Leafs, I wouldn't even root for them if they went to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Blue Jackets! I'm looking forward to seeing what Gainey can do with a couple of years worth of draft picks with a few trades thrown in. |

Edie Brickell got married to Paul Simon. I guess she settled down and became a mother. I think she's done two albums in like the 16 years since "What I am".
