Zoot, do you mind if I upload the washing machine pictures to the Wiki? This is a good thread but it's going to drop down or be buried in the FAQ later on. |

JongnoGuru~ I'm afraid I'll have to worship you a little less after that remark about washer/dryer combos. I certainly have to speak up in defense of mine. I have one. I love it. I perhaps love it more than it is decent to love a machine. I do not have any problems at all with it washing or drying my laundry. It does an excellent job. Have I mentioned how much I loooooove it? All you have to do to get it to work properly is to not overload it. If you set it for one extra spin cycle when it's finished washing, it dries even faster. |
Oh, but I hoped you would know that I am a patient and understanding Guru. Have no worries if you find yourself doubting my 'Crazy Wisdom' regarding The Flawed Concept of Washer Dryers. You see, true faith in the Guru is grounded in the deeper experiences of the spirit and the unerring insight of purified intuition. This does not mean that faith is not allowed to be examined by critical intellect. Nor is spiritual intuition is to be regarded as the antithesis of critical reasoning. In fact, many forms of naive credulity cannot be broken through except by the fearless free working of critical reason. The right of testing the Guru through critical reasoning has always been conceded to disciples such as yourself, Pet Lover.
(Translation: Everyone should try a load of washing & drying with these machines -- a friend's, perhaps -- before they buy one, and see if it suits them.)

Um... Uh....
I wonder if the Guru could squeeze into one of these washer-dryer combos, because... well frankly, he and his thoughts could stand a bit of purification now and then.
Schwa's got the idea: Train a fan on the clothes. I'd completely forgotten to mention that, despite having used the same method myself for years. Though I did accidentally kill a pair of dress socks by fan death that way.
Krats wants to know where I got mine and for how much. If by "mine" you mean the one I posted the photos of, that's actually in storage at the moment, pulled from one rental unit and going either into another or given as a bonus to an old couple who do interior varnishing work for me. Knowing old Koreans as I do, they won't even bother with the drying feature.
I believe that one was purchased in the summer of 2004 and was ... about 700~800,000 then. It's called a "Hauzen", Samsung's pseudo-German-sounding brand for the line. With LG and Samung turning new models out every year, plus many imports, there must be about 100 different ones to choose from. Many different specs (XX kg washing capacity / XX kg drying capacity) and features to consider.

I have GOT to remember to be more careful with my word choice and sentence structure when posting here. |

definitely if you dont have anywhere else to hang your clothes, hang em on a rack inside the living room area or your bedroom, NOT your bathroom, in the summer its just way too humid and more so in the bathroom so it wont dry properly in there
and a fan works great! also remember not to overload your rack! make sure your clothes are spread out and not too crowded, hang shirts and pants on hangers and hang em over the wardrobe or room door
i remember in korea, on the weekend, i'd have laundry hanging all over my apartment with the fan on and if i did the wash on sat night, it would all be completely dry and smell fresh by sun afternoon |

Near the end of my contract in Daegu, I saw a very small, narrow dryer selling for 60 000 won at Song seo Homeplus. I wonder how good a job it would do. |

Hi Mithridates,
Sorry I didn't see this until now.
I don't mind at all. I'm happy to have made such a useful post so early in my ESL career. |
