In public I say, I have learned how to make the parents, students and teachers happy. You really got to kiss butt. In private I hope I can get out before they find out I'm a fraud. |

Do your best.
Check to see if your students are learning.
Use the material given and make it better.
Dont take yourself too seriously. |

I needed some cash!
Seriously though, they probably want some kind of educational sounding philosophy. Something about student-centered learning, or something similar. You can probably find everything you need by doing a google search for "philosophy of education". But I've never tried, so I can't promise anything. |

I have a seven page philosophy. It includes my approach (CLT) and how I use it, the influences on my teaching, other styles outside of CLT which affect my teaching, language specific teaching techniques, learner level considerations, and my focus -- learner autonomy. |

...I'd love to see the look on their faces after you've finished reading all seven pages to them beaver.
... ahhh, I'd go for something snappy but meaningless, with as many ESL buzz words thrown in as possible, namely 'communicative approach', 'student-centered learning', 'blended learning', there's a ton of other ones which you could use in almost any order in a sentence and they'd still impress your average recruiter/manager etc... |

I don't read. It's just in my application package.
I was talking to my director a while back about the new hires and she mentioned that short and not well thought-out proposals are a big negative when hiring. |

I suppose it depends on what kind of position you are applying for.
If it were a university job, then putting some effort into having something similar to the Beave would be worth your while.
If it's you typical haggie......... well, you decide.
If I had to write down what I would call my philosophy.........
it would take me a while to think of the right words and to write it in a presentable manner.
It also depends on the class as my style and approach vary greatly depending upon the age, maturity and level of the students.
Adaptable to the needs of the students, I suppose would sum it up best.
Hope this helps |

The simple step of sitting down and putting some thought into writing a real teaching philosophy speaks volumes.
By the same token, the simple step of trying to find a way to BS your way with some made up teaching philosophy speaks volumes about the kind of teacher you will end up being.
In the end, teaching requires planning. You could be some teaching clown here (there are many) and finish off your year or two but what will you get out of this except a few bucks?
However, if you start your stay in Korea by Bsing your way in, you might end up a MR or miserable.
Up to you really. |
