I'm American, so I can't "just come here a month or two". We don't get more than 3 weeks, I believe. |
From the US, if you have a passport, that is, you send in a C3 application to the nearest Korean embassy, much like you would apply for an E2. In this way you can get a 90-day tourist visa. There is a $45 visa-processing fee.

I didn't realise that Americans got so short a time here. Canadians automatically get 6 months stamped in for touring, on arrival.

Salary is in excess of 3 million won plus overtime. Housing allowance is 1 million/month.
If this were an average position, I wouldn't have held out this long. |
Take a pay cut for a couple months. That will get you over there quick.

It's true, and it's all about reciprocity. As I understand it, it's because the U.S. is very stringent about allowing even tourist visas from South Koreans. To even get a tourist visa to the U.S. a Korean has to prove that he has a good job, and strong family ties, or they can't get in. Seen the AFKN spots? In return, Korea isn't as kind to Americans as other country's citizens.
Canada has a more liberal visa policy towards Koreans than the U.S., so Korea returns the favor to Canadians. |
