In other words, the neighbourhood ajummas are shrieking in tongues again. Rolling Eyes

New place. Second time I've heard them, I guess because I had to come home during lunch today to get something. This is the third place I've lived in Korea where I was within earshot of these frantic tongue-speakers. Starts out with the happy-clappy singing, and before you know it, it's all nutty-sounding and "help! I'm possessed!" horrorshow time. All excited, the volume rises to a cresendo, then falls, then back up... and on it goes.

I'm not a Buddhist, but whenever I can hear the monks over at the temple start to chant, I turn off the stereo and just let them provide the soundtrack to my life for a while. Goes well with the cicadas on a lazy summer afternoon. But when these ajummas (and it's always only ajummas) get revved up with their funky, bypassing-the-mind babbling, I turn up the volume.

hahahaha...we live near a uni. needless to say....at the beginning and ending of the semester, my wife and I get saranaided (too lazy to look up the sp. sorry Laughing ) by the Korean male students.

They love to drink Soju and sing until 3am. Thank God we learned how to say:

E----Tak-----Ja!..... SHUT THE MOUTH!

Been there, done that, got a post about it somewheres around here. My solution was Infectious Grooves first album with the volume and the bass cranked up to 11.

Why are cults so loud? Where are all the whispering, 'speak no evil and quiet as a mouse' cults anyway?

If only the Quakers hadn't had that rule against sex. They died out, by and large, but they were nice quiet folk.

Uhh, the Quakers haven't died out, but they are pretty silent (at least while they worship). They weren't the ones who banned intimacy between men and women. You're thinking of the Shakers...

Whoops. Thanks for setting me straight. I should have known better, given that my great-grandmother was a Quaker-type.
