This is a hard question. I have to go with Simpsons because of its longevity but I like the Family Guy better right now. I posted this in another thread. This is one of my favorite FG scenes from this season.

I've only seen the Family Guy twice. But I laughed as much or more than I ever did at the Simpsons. I found the Simpsons pretty good years ago, now it's still entertaining but doesn't crack me up as much as it used to. |

I have been showing both Family Guy and The simpsons to some of my older students, while some of them have a decent English level, they laugh at different things.
During The Simpsons, they were more bemused at Lisa and Bart, while I was laughing my arse of at Homer.
During Family Guy, thankfully the English was too fast and they were laughing at the physical comedy rather than the script, the episode was a bit risque.
PS The Simpsons, winning by a mile excellent

The Family Guy, hands down. It is just so funny. Happiest days in college when they started replaying it at night. I haven't seen the new episodes yet but my god the simpsons has its moments, but family guy is just so much better. |

yes...it's true as said before, simpsons is a really REALLY good show.
And it has a lot of moments. And, for the most part, it is an incredibly impressive thing that the writers can STILL make people laugh with the same basic 5 (+15 or so) characters.
If it were an all time vote, i'd go for simpsons.
But for the here and now, it's GOTTA be family guy.
The epicac clip was a bit much. I mean, I was laughing my ass off, but the with my new "I can't believe they're doing this" laugh that is somewhat hiding the terror. Still, funny.
I'm a big fan of jokes that are PURE wit, without any adult themes. Just cause it seems like it's SO much more of a challenge to make them. |

Homer!
One of the funniest, best, most real cartoon guy ever created. Bart started the show, Homer made it last! |

I remember when The Simpsons used to be funny and nothing could even remotely come close. It was truly a masterpiece.
Now The Simpsons has degraded into something unrecognizable. Is it even the same show? Are they even the same characters? The writers are mediocre and so is the show. I never watch it because it just breaks my heart to see a masterpiece reduced to bullsh*t!
As for the Family Guy, well, my avatar says it all. It is truly a great show and thats why its back, though they may be slipping a little. |

The Simpsons are the GOAT. Just like MJ in his prime.
Sure, we're in the Washington Bullets days of its career, but I can watch an old episode (Homer joins NASA, for example) that I have seen upwards of ten times and still find it fantastic. Akin to MJ's Game 1 against Portland in 92.
I love Family Guy, but I don't think it could ever match the subtle heart of the Simpsons. |
