Has anyone seen 'Celtic Women'? It's 5 beautiful Irish women with terrific voices singing song after song that sound exactly the same, mostly because they are all sloooooooooooow ballads. In an hour and a half only one song has been that traditional music with the drums and is such fun to listen to. With all that wonderful tradition and variety to draw from, they've bled it dry as a bone. A big disappointment. |

Modern Irish traditional music is as susceptible to banal fashion as any other form of music.
While the Clannad/Enya style of celtic/mystic/new age is preferable to a lot of music I still much prefer a 'jig and reel' fiddle/flute/pipes group. |

I was expecting at least some of that drums/pipes jig stuff. Except for the one exception, it was all Enya-style. ALL. |
