Please Teach Me English

I love this movie. I nearly died I laughed so much. My favorite scene was when she took all the foreigners to her relatives farm and the blonde teacher kissed the old Korean guy on the cheek. Laughing

I'll say Old Boy one more time because it is that good.

Spider Forest is a creepy and super violent thriller movie. with spiders.

I don't know the english title but the korean title is ٶ and the box cover is memorable: a totally naked korean lady with her naughty bits just barrrrrrely being covered by a big black box. that movie is cool. lots of sex in it, like the cover suggests.

you're looking in the right direction if you're looking away from the romance category. koreans seem to be born without a gene for detecting corniness. otherwise, why would they do that thing where you put your hands over your head to make the shape of heart? (gags)

All the movies I liked have been posted here except one.. I watched Sympathy for Mr. Vengence thiking I'd watch about half of it then delete it from my computer. Turned out to be quite complex and well made.. if a bit too bloody towards the end.

As for bad movies: I worked on the following movies as extra, english coach to the actors, voice overs, etc. They all sucked:

2424 - walked out half way through the premier because it was so bad. But I worked with some hot actresses.

Oh! Happy Day. Walked out on this premier almost for the misplaced excalmation point as the bad movie. I hate whiney Jangnara and Park Jeong Cheol's English scene was hilarious - even though is was supposed to be a dramatic highlite of the movie.

Another one I can't remember the name exactly - "Geu namja mushine" or something like that.. "That boy is so handsome"... based on a bestselling novel by a teenage girl. It was spretty bad but I got to meet another hot actress in the studio and I spent a few hours in the studio with the guy who plays the retarded kid in Memory of Murder. he was AMAZING in that movie.

My 15 minutes are up....

yeah.. ģ ھ is totally disappointing. all style and no heart, and whereas the humour in old boy works fine, it just collapses under the weight of a really heavy, blackhearted story line (which also happens to be totally unimaginative) here. ̿ is fantastic though, but that's the only good thing to be said for it.

i really wanna see Sympathy for Lady Vengeance but i'm not nearly confident enough in my Korean skills to check it out without subtitles. who's seen the first movie in that series? what is it? Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance or something? Young Boy? I dunno. Old Boy is so good it's hard imagine it would suck, but better directors have made worse films so i can believe it.

One not mentioned here is "The President's Last Bang," which gives a fascinating depiction of Park Chung Hee's assassination. It was not popular in Korea but is really good.

Thought ĵ was kinda cute...here's a blurb about it.

After a mob boss' mistress takes off with a lottery ticket with a net worth of $16 billion, his henchmen Jae Chul (Lee Jeong Jin) is sent to find the woman and retrieve the ticket. Also hot on the trail of the lottery ticket is a corrupt detective, Chung Soo (Lee Moon Sik), whose tip leads them to a remote island called "Mapado." Deciding to split the winnings and set aside their differences, they set sail towards the island, believing that they would finally get their hands on the Lotto money. But what await their arrival are five elderly women, not the young woman who got away with the lotto ticket. Apparently, the five women are the ONLY inhabitants of the island and have not seen a man nor had sex in quite some time. The guys are in for some surprises obviously...

Thanks for so many suggestions. My notebook's harddrive is full like a fat boy. Gonna have to start burning them to DVD-R's.

Oh I saw Memories of Murder a two days ago. It was a great movie. I've seen those two actors (cops) in other movies before. I'm not to impressed with the fat guy, but the skinny guy is a pretty good actor.

in my opinion ֹν is the best actor in Korea, his films are usually strong.

Classic is another film that is pretty good, I initially though it would be crud, but have seen it a few times now and still think its pretty damn good...... for a chick flick

I dont believe anybody has mentioned PEPPERMINT CANDY yet.

I know a guy who swears its the best movie he's ever seen.

I love Korean movies because I see an originality that doesnt come through clearly in other aspects of their culture.
