US President George W Bush says he still has not ruled out the option of using force against Iran, after it resumed work on its nuclear programme. |

So, another "pre-emptive strike" on the way? If so, a simple "surgical" strike? Necessarily followed by a second invasion?
Where would he get the manower? |

They've been trying to play this up for two years now. They just won't be able to get the public behind yet another major conflict. Much of the US public is joining the rest of the world in not believing either Washington or Tehran. If they do launch an attack the fallout in Iraq will be interesting. |

Having all options on the table is really all Bush can say if he wants to put pressure on Iran. It's an empty threat, which is always a foolish thing to do. Without the manpower to invade, all that leaves is an air strike. Israel pulled it off on Iraq. But Iran is being backed by China and Russia. Rummy says big bombs are coming into Iraq from Iran. No air strike will stop that. It would probably increase it.
The whole world has known since the early 70's that dependence on Middle East oil is dangerous. No country has done much to reduce that dependency. Now, with China and India needing more oil, the crunch is getting extreme.
Carter started an energy program, but all the presidents and Congresses over the last 30 years have wasted the opportunity. The biggest notification that trouble was looming was 9/11. It was squandered, along with the budget surplus. I haven't heard of any really innovative energy programs coming out of other countries.
Last week when I filled the car, gas was at $2.19/gallon. This week it is $2.35. Refineries are maxed out. The current Energy Bill did nothing to reduce energy prices or increase conservation--and it took 3 years to get passed. We're borrowing close to $300 BILLION from China to build highways. The national debt is at record levels--and China holds the check book.
They say Iran is as much as 10 years away from having a bomb. I'm willing to bet the situation will not have changed much by the time they do a bomb test in 2015. |

Iran isn't being backed by Russia and China in such that they would go to war for it.
I agree with much of your post but the primary reasons for the US deficit aren't Bush's tax cuts.
It was the economic downturn the stock market meltdown and the war on terror.
The economy began to go south during the end of Clintons' term so did the stock market. 9-11 was planned before Bush came to office. it is kind of unreasonable to pin those things on the current US president.
He hasn't done much when it comes to alternative energy either but you can't blame Bush for "peak oil" either.

yeah screw it, just invade and connect iraq to afghanistan. use the troops from germany and japan, they should be paying for their own defence anyway.. do it, unite the Shia and Sunni fundamentalists once and for all.
or just nuke the whole region and turn all that sand into glass.
but seriously folks, given that our Iraq adventure is almost completely dependent on the Shia, making idle threats against Iran is retarded.. retarded, but par for the course. |

And if Bush were to go soft on Iran, he would be accused of coddling dangerous dictators and supporting a nasty regime's attempts to get a nuclear bomb. |

KA-nuke!-BOOM.
Take out the site now with a low-yield weapon, and show them who's boss!, all the while spreading a message of democratic elections, et. al., in Iraq.
Carry a big stick and use it, I say.
Keep them mud-people in their place.
Not LOL,
