Seymour Hersh is a journalist of some reputation (which tells you the right doesn't like him). He was on The Daily Show tonight. Two interesting predictions he made:
a) The insurrection has slowed in the last few days because they are preparing a 'Tet Offensive', possibly aimed at the Green Zone, or a Battle for Baghdad.
b) Iran has been talking to Venezuela. The new king of Saudi Arabia is not happy with Bush. (That part wasn't clear. Stewart talked over him.) The consequence: an oil shock.
Interesting ideas, hunh? |

It's more like, that's the buzz about the market. Or, it could be that the buzz is that Ghawar is being depleted. Or maybe it's because the US had to close its embassies due to an unspecified threat recently. Yes, it's true that King Abdullah is not the friendliest in the family towards Bush, but that's probably not the sole reason for the current oil shock.

Sorry. I wasn't very clear about this. The present spike in oil prices is due to other factors. Hersh was referring to a future oil shock--on top of what we are having now. |

Rice on Iraq's current constitutional debate difficulties:
"Iraqi process... ...Iraqi process.... ...this isn't an American process, it's an Iraqi one... ...Iraqi process."
Stephen Colbert: "The confirmation of the new White House Chef could be a difficult one."
Hersh's predictions: [my paraphrasing] The sh*t will be hitting the fan in Iraq and Afghanistan for some time to come; Neocons will be like "WTF? This wasn't supposed to happen!"
Last night's Daily Show was a keeper, the best in a while. |

No, it was new-
they interviewed the new White House Chef (I think she might be a Filipina?).
Seymour Hersh has a new book out: Chain of Command.
They made fun of Rice distancing the US from the Iraqi constitutional debate extension (i.e. the only thing they can all agree on is that they all disagree with each other).
Hersh's book:

Could this be the start, or are they waiting for the constitutional talks to (enevitably) break down?
Many casualties in Baghdad triple car bomb-police
Wed Aug 17, 2005 5:32 AM BST
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Three car bombs targeting a bus station in central Baghdad caused many casualties during the Wednesday morning rush hour, police said.
"There are many wounded and killed," one police officer said after two bombs went off within minutes of each other at the bustling Nahda bus station, shortly before 8 a.m. (5:00 a.m. BST).
Moments later a third car bomb detonated nearby, close to the Kindi hospital where some of the wounded were being taken.
Thick black smoke rose over the city and a Reuters reporter saw blazing buses and cars and two lifeless bodies on the road.
There has been a lull for the past week or so in major insurgent attacks in the Iraqi capital.
Leaders of rival sectarian and ethnic communities are deep in negotiation on a new constitution and the attacks may have been intended to send a message of defiance from the Sunni Arab rebels opposed to the new, U.S.-backed, Shi'ite-led government.
The co-ordination of the bombs suggested the involvement of Islamist radical groups like Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's Al Qaeda in Iraq, which has carried out many of the biggest suicide car bomb attacks since the government was formed four months ago. |

Hang on a second! Hersh's book has a publication date of 2004... WTF?
Could the interview part of the show been a repeat?
That doesn't make sense....
Maybe Hersh was flogging the paperback edition? |

It's the paperback version that is new.
Last night was not a re-run. It was irritating how Stewart kept interrupting just when Hersh was starting to say something I wanted to hear. I think he had a lot more on his mind he wanted to say. What he did say was disturbing enough.
I immediately thought of last night's show when I turned on my computer this morning and saw the bit about the 3 bombings. I also wondered if this was the start of Hersh's prediction. Time will tell. The constitution was supposed to be finished last Friday, followed by something in October (?) and then December. Is that right? If so, I would think October might be a good time to schedule a major attack. Take out a major number of oil wells just as winter is coming on.
The bass fishing segment was one of the better examples of that type. Up there with Corn Cob Bob, which is #1. I'm impressed the writers can come up with such dumb-a$$ questions or flat-out rude questions, night after night. And who, but a celebrity wannabe, would allow themselves to be interviewed that way for that show? |

That's my only beef with Stewart. |
