Money Troubles Cause Late Marriage
Lee Myung-jin, a 33-year-old public worker in Seoul, has been going steady with his girlfriend for five years, but has no plans to marry her because of financial difficulties.

When asked "What is the main reason for late marriage?" 26.5 percent of men answered that they are not ready for marriage due to a lack of financial means, while 27.6 percent of women said that they simply do not have many chances to meet a partner.... As for the main reason for late marriage, 30.2 percent of men and 25.8 percent of women answered that they do not want to be chained to their future spouses.

Graduate student Kim Mi-jung, 27, said people in her age group probably have too many things on their minds to worry about marriage. "Amid the worsening employment situation and many things to study in order to be accepted in society, how can people think about starting a family and meeting a life partner?" she asked. "Taking care of myself is hard enough."
