| I don't see how getting a sealed transcript is such a big deal. |
Actually, odd that no one has mentioned the teachers here who couldn't do this because they are behind or have defaulted on student loan payments. At least in the US, these people can't get transcripts from their unis. |
Good point. If you defaulted on a loan involving a public university or owe money on a Perkins loan your private university administered, then you're probably SOL. |

If the person is behind his or her payments that is a bad deal.
Defaulting is another thing and it has severe consequences.
I don't see how or why a university would bother refusing transcripts as the loan is not with the university (pvt or public) but with the bank. |

You might be playing devils advocate but your reasons are pretty flimsy...
| Quote: |
1. Have the courage to break the law in order to make a living.
2. The people I have met who don't hold a degree, in some cases, turned out to be better teachers because they learn from their mistakes and use their classroom experiences to make them better.
3. some of them tend to take their job more seriously because they know that with everyday comes the risk of getting caught.
4. They tend to take alot more shiznit because of their status, thus making them even stronger people who can appreciate better conditions when they are offered to them. |
It takes courage to break the law??? What happens to them if they are caught? They get deported, no biggie there. Maybe if they got fed to Lions then breaking the law would take courage!
They learn from their mistakes??? So people with degrees don't? In my opinion a person with a degree has shown they can work independantly toward a goal. They have shown resolve, dedication and an ability to study and absorb new information.
Can a person without a degree do that too? Sure! So if they can... why haven't they?
Taking your job seriously comes down to the individual and the environment. It's hardly related to holding a degree or not.
They might take more crap because they value their job more... sure, and that helps the industry how??????? Makes them stronger?? Hmmm.
Make teaching here harder to get into, make being a good teacher a valued commodity, value experience and pay accordingly. Any action that makes these come true I would back 100%. Sealed transcripts are barely a start... next comes 6 month vacation time for Canadians (and any other countries that get that length of time). Seriously who would visit Korea for 6 months AND then leave the country and come back a few days later for another 6 months?!?!?! I enjoy living in Korea but there is no way a tourist would hang out here for any extended length of time, there simply isn't that much to see. Hell you could walk around Korea in 6 months!!
*throws 20 won in* |
HAHA!! i see you havent been in korea for very long my friend!! you asked , Who would walk around and visit korea EVERY 6 months??
what do you think they are doing while they are here?? WORKING, and probably making making more money than you or i, either at a school or with privates. i met lots of guys actually! not that that's a great bragging right. you think leaving every 6 months is a hassle??? hahah!! taking a trip to a new country or a favorite hot spot in asia wouldnt sound that bad!! better than spending your 1 week hogwon vacation in the apartment they gave you! come to think of it, i wish i COULD do it at times.
you yourself said you enjoy living in korea. maybe they do too! you think they are just roaming the streets and hanging out at burger king or panhandling for cash? most, NOT ALL, are probably working as much as a legal is. only difference is, he or she has to leave for a few days to THailand or Bali. Oh no! BEACHES! they're so terrible |
