|
|
I would like to compile a list of foreigner friendly korean companies. I want to do this because I'm tired ot getting to run around at companies that have obvious anti-foreigner policies and I'd like to support ones that actually do cater to foreigners. Also, if you have had a particularly bad experience with a company here because of your foreigner-ness, don't hesitate to add it here so that we can all avoid it.
I'll start.
Friendly:
Samsung-Card
KTF
KEB Bank

Friendly:
I bank with KB and it's been hassle-free.
My cell phone is with LG, and I'm more than satisfied with their pre-paid option.
Starbucks employees always make an effort to speak English to me. Yes, I feel like an imp when they do it, but it's the thought that counts.
Unfriendly:
Hite, Cass, and OB. Their beer was not designed with the foreign connoisseur in mind. |

Reasons, I suppose, are in order.
Samsung-Card: Credit card in two weeks from application to shopping. No hassles. I had to know a little Korean - but they will try to accomodate you if you don't.
KTF: No card-phone, no security deposit, also no hassles. I wanted a phone on a monthly plan and they hooked it up for me. When I was playing the cell-phone shuffle, there was no problems registering old phones and registering new phones. I've moved about 8 times while in Korea - never a hassle with changing addresses or anything.
KEB Bank: Because they have an Expat credit card. These are one of the few (if only) banks that will give you a credit card.
Why not KB Bank? Oh, they're fine if all you want to do it withdrawl and deposit in Korea. Sending money home? Passport stamp. Want to get a credit card? Sorry! No foreigner! Their 'international' ATM cards now no longer work overseas. (especially with new accounts). Blah. They can bite me. |

I've dealt with Kookmin banks in several different cities/provinces. Always had very friendly service with them trying their best to figure out what I wanted. Have an international ATM card from them that has worked overseas for well over a year. Never tried to get a credit card from them as I have no need for one. I LIKE Kookmin! |

Banks can be really hit and miss I find. For example, I bank at Nong Hyup and most people say that they're terrible but I always get great service. However, I went to KB in Kyung-Ju with my parents so they could change money and we had absolutely horrible service.
Hite, OB, and Cass are all fine and foreigner friendly...just a bit on the lite side. Try the Hite Prime or Red Rock...actually Red Rock is my new favourite beer. |

I'm with KTF and I have the phone in my name and my monthly bill is deducted from my bank account...

I'm one of the disgruntled Kook-Min Bank customers. If Jesse James were alive today I'd hire him to right my wrongs. My overseas card does NOT work and I hate their credit card policy of linking card to visa--every year I end up without a card for two months. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
So I'd like to hear more about that Samsung card people mentioned. |
