Some explanation first:
As I've mentioned here before, the vast wealth I accumulated while teaching English in Kangnam has been invested in a commune in Washington state, where I currently live in squalor. Among other insanities that have been perpetuated here are chickens...several generations of Japanese Bantams and about thirty Barred-rock hens. We ate the barred rocks and the coyotes and bobcats and owls and weasels kept the Bantam population down to about ten or eleven surviving birds out of the thirty or more chicks they hatched out each year. About two years ago our last rooster was eaten and so no more chicks. This winter we were finally down to one very smart Black Bantam hen, she sleeps with the cats under the porch and spends the days eating bugs in the yard.
But this morning she has a baby chick with her...herself in miniature.
She has not been setting on eggs and the nearest male chickens live so far away she'd have to learn how to drive the Buick to get some action.
I can think of only two explanations:
Aliens abducted and diddled the hen.
Immaculate conception...it must be some kind of sign? |

You're implying that a group composed entirely of female animals will... breed? |

That's just too crazy...aliens seems like a simpler explanation. |
