Possible problem - the audio drivers for your sound card or chip haven't been installed properly.
Check that.

Do you have a separate sound card? or is it onboard? If separate, you probably just need to re-install the drivers. Of course, if it's onboard, you might have to do the same thing.

if u have a sound card on the mother board, you might have to dis-enable it through the BIOS settings.
For some reason, even then, when using Windows 98se, on my ASUS it only worked half the time. Yes, I switched to XP |

Try these 3 suggestions:
1)
Open "Control Panel"
Select "Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices"
Select "Sounds and Audio Devices"
The "Audio" tab.
Default Device for sound playback and the rest should be your audio card. If not them select it.
BTW XP has drivers for almost everything. That's what made it better than ME and 95. (one thing anyway).
2)
You can also right click on My Computer, select Properties (at the bottom) Select the Hardware tab the Device Manager.
Now you can look at Sound, video and game controllers. A yellow ! (exclamation mark) means there is a problem. Right click on the thing with the yello ! and select update driver.
3)
Going to the Windows update site should give you any device driver updates you need.
Lastly you need to visit the site that makes your audio card and update the drivers. I have a sound card on one of my PC's that came with a cheap Mother Board. I can't get it working at all so I put in a cheap Sound Blaster card. No problems now. |
