I just wanted to point out a few things to you.

1. Correcting word usage does not make one a "grammar Nazi." That would make one a "diction Nazi," if anything.

2. When Corporal laments people using the "'language is evolving!' banner to excuse all and any inaccuracies," she isn't saying that language doesn't evolve. She's saying that is a lame excuse for poor writing.

3. A good teacher should be a good student. Why disdain a free and easy lesson?

4. This thread got hijacked pretty badly.

Thanks for listening,

Qinella the Comprehension Nazi

Well, Qinella can read at least. Wink

Of course language can, does and should evolve. But should a noun become a verb merely because some yokels started using that way on the internet so often that a handful of other folks decided it must then be acceptable? No.

N.B. The excessive usage of ellipses is not a substitute for convincing logic, cohesive sentences, or coherent thought.

Smooches,

Yes...it should...because that is how the language changes...do you think that a bunch of people get in a room and starting suggesting changes to the language. One person uses a word and if it catches on and enters common usage...then funny enough we get a new word...or a new twist on an old word.

I love teaching, too--you should probably know that "impact" is a noun and not a verb. One's wisdom teeth get impacted; nothing else.

Does anybody else imagine Corporal to go to work wearing an angry grimace and a tight black leather cat-woman suit and carrying a whip? Not sure why but i picture her deliberately making the kindy kids cry (and emitting evil demonic giggles when they do) while strutting around the classroom on highheels making her damn hot leather-covered backside wobble like the cheeks of a squirrel eating a peanut...

Of course, i could be wrong...

I haven't made a kid cry in at LEAST a week.

Do you make your hubby cry like Jacob every night?

All I was saying is i dont know a job in England that is as rewarding and creative as one I have here. Money is an issue, but when is it ever not in this life. all (no capital letter after a full stop AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE) I was trying to do is make people appreciate, that sure the job/place is not perfect but its pretty damn good overall.

might want to use 'you are' next time to avoid confusion

I got this from Dictionary.com:

Usage Note: The use of impact as a verb meaning to have an effect often has a big impact on readers. Eighty-four percent of the Usage Panel disapproves of the construction to impact on, as in the phrase social pathologies, common to the inner city, that impact heavily on such a community; fully 95 percent disapproves of the use of impact as a transitive verb in the sentence Companies have used disposable techniques that have a potential for impacting our health. It is unclear why this usage provokes such a strong response, but it cannot be because of novelty. Impact has been used as a verb since 1601, when it meant to fix or pack in, and its modern, figurative use dates from 1935.

I wonder what internet speed was like in the 1600s.
