I want to use stickers as a reward system in Korea, but I'm still in NAmerica. Is it worth buying some stickers here or do they have really cool stickers in Korea. Are there any symbols or animals that Korean kids find supercute or favour more than others?

Hi. Good luck on your new job.

Yes. Korean kids (the young ones) really love stickers. There is a huge variety available at the "moon bang goo" combination stationery/toy stores here. But, feel free to bring cool ones with you.

Try to talk to someone by phone about all the conditions here before you come. Especially a teacher already at your school or hagwon. It's worth the price of a long call.

They tend not to have the sparkly ones that are so common at home, I usually buy a few for special rewards for my kids, They are just as happy though with the plainer ones I buy here though.

I can't find scratch-n'-sniff stickers here - I'm sure the kids would really like them. They'd also like things like little flag stickers, I'm sure. Your biggest challenge will be finding stickers that the boys like. Korean elementary school girls will do anything for stickers, and it's easy to find all sorts that they like at almost any corner shop.

I get stickers when I am in the States for my camp students- especially ones with English on them, like "Great Job!" etc.

Yes they do have stickers here. I saw a card of stickers recently that were mostly steaming piles of dung. Honestly. After you are here a while, you will understand completely. Dung is a very strange obsession here.

If you can get a bunch of Mr Hanky South Park stickers I'm sure the kids would go crazy over them.

I have seen heaps of crap stickers around here but not a lot of good ones (even in the big stationery stores!). The younger kids live my NZ stickers! Even the boys. I brought a whole lot of NZ relates stickers (animals, flags, Maori etc) but also non-NZ specific stickers (flowers, aliens, dinosaurs) and they love them all. If you let you students choose the stickers they like then the boys will find something that appeals to them.

But yes, also bring heaps of coins. I was going to get my mother to send mine because they were too heavy in my bag, but I found out it is illegal to mail cash in NZ... The kids have been asking me for coins a lot, they make great rewards.

Also stationery is a big hit. Pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, pencil cases etc with some kind of foreign design. At the $2 shop I found a set with NZ animals on them.... the kids go nuts!

Yeah, in Home Plus. The page has a dozen pretty images from that Korean card game, and around the margins, unnoticed until I got home, are the stickers of little piles of dung, with vertical warm smelly lines, and little faces on each pile. There is also a chinese character sticker between each pile of dung sticker. The characters are all the same, so I assume they say what one would imagine. Cool
