Hi, Jongnoguru made the following post on an unrelated thread.
Quote: |
Say, why have I met three Koreans in the past... five months? ... who are talking about, thinking about, planning to emigrate to South Africa? Will they be safe? |
This got me thinking I really haven't heard anything positive about South Africa lately.
OK.
Ever.
So please, if you are from South Africa, or have spent much time there, might I impose upon you to tell us what YOU would like foreigners to know about your country? |

I am friends with some South African acrobats who tell me that Capetown is the most beautiful city in the world. The people I meet from there seem to be quite civilized, decent folk. There. Somebody just said two nice things about South Africa. |

Cape Town's a hippy city.
To the OP - there's a place in Malvern, Jonhannesburg, that has a TV. It's awesome. |

For starters there's a great smell in the air, an encouragement to barbeque, greatly contrasting with Korea.
They say that once you've seen the African sun, it forms an indelible memory. South Africa is very representative of this.
There's always something new out of Africa, again so they say and I'm inclined to agree.
Slightly deviating from the OP's question, English speaking South Africans have great accents for teaching EFL, it's both neutral and clear, though I'd concede that Canadian is better. That's my opinion.
In the days of apartheid the Whites had control of the tax base. Accordingly, the schools, libraries, swimming pools and universities were well-funded. Thus South Africans are inclined to be resourceful, adventurous types. |
