quite a few Korean famililies immigrating to Canada eh! the burbs of Coquitlam and Port Moody are full of KOreans.Austin and North Rd area is nothing but a KOreaTown.u can get bibimbap and korean style chicken with beer.much like the Smoper chicken stuff i liked there.
met a KOrean guy in his early 50's who moved to Canada so his sons could attend uni over here. the guy doesnt work and spends his free time golfing and hiking.easy life!!
these Korean folks coming over obviously have $, but not as much as the HOng Kong Chinese.
Canada does a wonderful job attracting Asian immigrants with $ and the rest of us slave away here daily struggling to survive! |

Huh? What?
Anyway, yes lots of Koreans in Coquitlam. There's been a Koreatown there for many years now. Now that I've spent a few years in Korea, I'm interested to visit those areas again and see what kind of vibe I get. It'll certainly be a totally different feeling for me than when I left Vancity in 2001. |

In my cruisings around Van, I notice plenty of people speaking Korean and a lot of Korean supermarkets and the like. Haven't actually met any of them though...I think they tend to stay to themselves pretty much. Chinese, Japanese, etc are a lot easier to meet here. |

I'm not sure what your point is. First, where is the "here"? From your name "Koreanlifer", it would imply your home is Korea. Hence, "here" might be read as "Korea". So some people slave away in Korea to survive and people with education, money, and business acumen can move some place nice like BC? Or by "here" do you mean BC? So some people slave away in Canada to survive and people with education, money, and business acumen can move some place nice like BC?
If the first here is "Korea", well, I guess there is a tiny bit of shame in taking from the Korean state in terms of a public education and various other services that made this immigrant the man he is today and then he ups 'n' transfers all his wealth to another nation. It's a bit like Jim Unger, the Canadian author of Herman, who up 'n' moved to the Bahamas to escape Canadian taxes. Bâtard! Bout de crisse!
If the here is "BC", I'm not sure I see the problem. People with substantial savings bring their cash in, they buy homes, they golf, their money gets transferred to the Canadians slaving away... Should Canada not accept wealthy immigrants? Should Canada strip them of their wealth and hand it to people with high school educations working at Tim Hortons? I remember back during the 1991 recession, when the rest of Canada was in the dumps, Vancouver was smoking hot absorbing the massive influx of well heeled Hong Kongers.
Clue us in. |

I'm not too sure about the op's original intention. I went to SFU and there has always been a Korean town in that area of Coquitlam (well..for 5 years anyways).
Yep, lots of Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, East Indians, etc.
Canada isn't a "white man's country," for the most part it's all stolen land. |

Friend of rapier are you?
Re:OP. Hordes of Koreans in Vancouver. Wow. Didn't know that. Now if you told me they eat kimchi, I'll really be shocked. |

As I understand it, the official policy is to let them erase themselves, while smothering their leaders with bags of money. But that could be just a rumour. |

It's not stolen land, it's land our European ancestors traded for booze. |

nah..actually I can't stand Rapier, I think we're on opposite spectrums when it comes to a lot of things. Canada is generally very good when it comes to immigration but a lot of people are anti-immigrate because they say it's bad for the economy and so forth. It's fun to argue with people who themselves (and myself) are ancestors of immigrants to Canada. |

There are lots of Koreans, Korean markets, and Korean restaurants here in Colorado Springs. It's fun because they always smile when I speak my pidgin Korean tell them we've just returned from living in Korea for the last 4 years. |
