i'm getting married in november. our wedding photos will be taken in early october. my fiance has requested that i drop some weight in time for the photos.
i'm not a huge guy. i've got skinny arms, skinny legs, a normal torso, and a big gut. i look like a normal guy who accidentally swallowed a basketball.
anyway, in spite of my embarrassingly unhealthy diet and my sluglike level of daily activity, i've maintained my basketballivorous figure for years, with few ups or downs.
i first acquired my gut from all of the coca-cola i drank in college. nowadays i'm drinking about four 600cc bottles of it a day. that is until yesterday. i've got about a month to drop some weight. i'll never entirely forsake coca-cola, because i love her. i told her yesterday, though, that i think we should start seeing other people... just for a month. so i started drinking water (blech!) and gatorade. also, yesterday and today i've been doing an hour on the treadmill, ten minutes of running and fifty minutes of brisk walking, but a full sixty minutes of hardcore sweating.
according to the treadmill, i'm burning about 360 calories per session. one bottle of coke has 240 calories in it, according to what i could make out from the label. so i should be going through about a coke an a half just from increased exercise alone. if i add that to the amount of coke i'm not drinking in september, i should be dropping five and a half cokes' worth of calories a day. it's been two days now, and i haven't noticed any coke-bottle shaped chunks missing from my belly. i know that's not exactly how it works. but if i keep up like i've been for yesterday and today, staying away from drinking coke for the entire month, and liimiting my beer drinking primarily to the weekends, and hitting the treadmill for an hour every day, am i going to look different to a camera in a month's time?

Why not switch to diet coke? Its still cokelicious (in my opinion its FAR nicer than the regular version) and has 0 calories. Of course u have lots of canceriffic aspartamene in it but what DOESNT give u cancer nowadays?

Oh and afaik u can look better in a month, tho it might not be hugely noticeable. I've lost over a stone since I got here, and though it shows in trousers which now constantly fall down I cant see a big difference. Best advice, do ur gymming and then eat healthily

Brekkie (always eat brekkie!): Cereal, fruit
Lunchee Smile : Probably rice and kimchee in this place
Dinner: Salad, meat, jacket potato (low fat mayo if ur gonna use any)

i'm very partial to chicken ceasar a'la Blund, where u buy indonesian satay spice from carrefour and griddle it on a Samgyupsal pan. But its a bitch to stop eating (I wish i could practice what i preach!)

Oh and stick an incline on your walking. I burn approx 225cals in 30mins and only 10 of that is running, the rest is up a 5% hill.

Drop all the drinks, except for water and tea and other stuff without any sugar in it. I don't know if it's enough to solve your basketball baby dilemma, but it's definitely better for you. Unfortunately, it doesn't taste as good.

If you really want to knock some weight off, check around for dieting. There's a few options out there, but I reckon if you either a) chowed down on lots of meat and hit the weights; or b) cut down on overall food intake and continued the exercise regimen, you'd see something within a month.

The final option is lyposuction. Yeah, baby!

If you really want to get thin fast, don't eat any meat or dairy products until the photos. Guaranteed to melt the weight off.

Yes, it is the sugar and carbs in the cola (and I suspect an otherwise carb heavy diet) that is probably more than a weight problem for you. With that kind of a hit on your insulin every day, you should also be thinking about the risks of diabetes.

I suggest that you try the first couple of weeks of the South Beach diet, because it does effectively cut your body's cravings for sugar and carbs. Its a hard thing to do, but you will feel sooooo much better afterwards.

I think the diet is too meat heavy for the long run, but the first couple of weeks will help you drop pounds, and also it will drop the weight first from the mid section- your gut.

More importantly, it will help you confront your very bad sugar habit.

It goes to show the confusion that can arise when you ask about health matters on Dave's....

This poster is advising you to do the opposite of the Atkins Diet, which, healthy or unhealthy, has been proven to be the only diet which really works in a quick way without starving yourself.

I lost 5 kgs in a month by eating nothing but gorgeous steaks, cheese omlettes, eggs, bacon, pork chops, lamb chops, more cheese, more meat and more eggs.

The problem in your diet and most overweight peoples diet is not really fat but sugar. Our processed food diet is laden with carbs which are essentially sugar. Breads, pastries, cookies, pasta, rice, potatoes, fruit, soda etc. That stuff tastes so good because it's full of sugar!!

Atkins works. If you stick to the rules you WILL lose weight in a month.

Cue the, "food-pyramid-can't-be-deviated-from", people.....
