|

There's a firefox extension been added that let's people ignore or hide the posts of others that they don't like (only works on phpbb forums). This would mean that when you choose a poster who you disagree with or whatever, you can view eslcafe with all of that posters submissions hidden.
Now before you start saying "this belongs in the technology forum", the question I'd pose is this. Are you better off being able to ignore the views of others, or does it defeat the very purpose of having an open forum in the first place ?? |

Completely ignoring someone sounds a bit over the top, but if this works in real life, then it's an interesting feature of the browser.
In reality would it be counter productive though I wonder? Fulfilling maybe, but not if that poster then turns on you. |

I'd like to ignore this double post. Is it possible? |

How can I answer if I'm ignoring you? However, by responding to your post, I'm not ignoring you to tell you that I'm ignoring you. Therefore, I'm paying attention to you to tell you that I can't answer because I'm ignoring you. So, I'm answering you to tell you that I can't answer my answer to you because I'm not ignoring you to tell you that I'm ignoring you. Oh... what the hell! - ignore all this.

One small flaw. If the person you are trying to ignore is quoted is quoted by someone you are NOT ignoring, you have no protection from seeing what they said.
Frankly, the whole idea smakcks of "ignorance is bliss." It really isn't, of course. Especially ifr the person is speaking publicly and attacking YOU, then you will not have the power to respond, defend or even know that the attack is occuring. |

well I dont want to ignore anyone on here whats the fun in that
even tho I dont agree with what someone says in one post I might agree with that same person in another post!
I never hold grudges of posters.. I just think of their opinions on certain subjects are whacked! and then move on to the next thread.. of course I might run into the same poster quiet often becuase we dont share similar thinking.. but thats fine! I want to read what everyone says on a thread I am interested in.. a thread Im not interested in I dont even read! |
