There is the late great Infocom. The best adventure game ever was the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy adaptation. |

| I realy liked Civilizations II. I played the crap out of Final Fantasy I when I was a kid. My all time favorite platform game was probably Shadowrun for the SEGA. The Nintendo version was alright but I love the Genesis version. Right now I play CoH off and on. Nothing seems to hold my attention for too long anymore. I am not a great player but I always like to get together with a group of 8 or so to play Halo. |

Half-Life and Half-Life 2
Call of Duty (best WWII FPS I've played)
Planescape Torment (Baldur's Gate (D&D) style, really cool story and characters)
Neverwinter Nights is a great buy because of the endless modules you can download, some are quite amazing.
Civilization III ate up a good chunk of my life...a chunk gladly donated
If you like strategy/tactical games, any of the "Total War" series are good. I especially like Rome: Total War
And when all else fails and you're sick of all that "plot" and "narrative" stuff, CounterStrike |

I fully agree with:
Mechwarrior Mercenaries 4
Mechcommander2
CIV III
Total War: The whole series.
Shogun is my favorite but I would love to Shogun with Rome detail
Neverwinter Nights (Best and first "good' RPG")
BUT
M.U.L.E.
was a benchmark in games. |

Starcraft is good because of the multiplayer...not the single player.
Try getting into the multiplayer aspect of the game....there starcraft really shines.
Actually I play Lineage, Battlefield 2, and Closecombat 5 |

This presumes that your idea of having a fun multiplayer session involves mining raw materials and building bases. Woo hoo!
All ur base are belong to us.... |

I guess you haven't played Brothers in Arms: The road to hill 30? I loved COD too....I thought it was unbeatable until I played BIA...wow....it has all that COD has, plus a lot more strategy. |

Bring back the old games we used to spent God knows how many hours.
All the LucasArts SCUMM games. Monkey Island 1+2, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Sam and Max hit the road and the classic Day of the Tentacle. Where have the writers for these games gone?! More funny games please!
Completely agree with Tie Fighter. The little tweaks like pressing "Enter" to match target speed and a overall increase in polish and execution made it miles ahead of X-Wing, even with the B-Wing expansion. Even if you played it through to the end, some of those Bonus Objectives were fiendishly difficult enough to warrant you retrying that mission one last time (at 6:30am).
Then there were some Microprose classics. Master of Orion 1+2, the fantastic X-Com series. XC was to me, at the time, the greatest game ever made. Even now, I find it difficult to believe that such a game could be crammed into less than 4megs. The opening video for most of today's games are four HUNDRED megs. How times change.
Great to see Bulsajo mention Deus Ex. Could barely run it when it first came out, but still thrashed it to the end, crappy FPS and all, just because the game was fantastic. I still remember the very first mission, trying to sneak into Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
Man, the good old days.

Monkey Island! Monkey Island 3 was beautiful! It wasn't just graphics, it was ART! And funny! The funniest game ever!
Have you tried Psychonauts yet? I haven't but it sure sounds like it's right up our alley!

I'm playing Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders atm which is a real trip down memory lane. The second game i ever got for my Amiga, from a dodgy bloke at a carboot sale. Sure enough 1/2 of the game never ran as the last two disks were corrupt. I'm excited about seeing the end.
Oh and yeah, System Shock 2, the most terrifying game I've ever played. Damn it was good, and the twist at the halfway point was just marvelous.
XCom terror from the deep rocked my world. One day my mate and I were playing it and I fell down the stairs, badly breaking my wrist. My mate's concern stretched to shouting from the computer... but who could blame him its so damned addictive.
Anyone play the new Xcom ripoff game UFO Aftermath I liked it but the second the Aliens got rocket launchers the game became impossible. |

Did you ever try Deus Ex then? Same team, same style of play, even BETTER story if you can believe that....
Deus Ex2 was a let down, as is snowblind (wierd game- if you can get your hands on it, check it out, because It's the first FPS I've ever played aimed at the Chinese market- you'll have to play it to understand what I mean here, it's just, wierd...) |
