Garfunkel Faces Another Pot Charge in NY
Tue Aug 30, 6:08 PM ET
WOODSTOCK, N.Y. - Singer Art Garfunkel, who pleaded guilty last year to pot possession in upstate New York, was charged again Sunday after a marijuana cigarette was allegedly found in the ashtray of his car, state police said.
The 63-year-old Garfunkel, who lives in Manhattan, was charged after being pulled over for failing to stop his vehicle at a stop sign, The Daily Freeman of Kingston reported Tuesday.
Upon approaching Garfunkel's car, a trooper noticed a strong odor of marijuana and a subsequent search turned up a joint in the ashtray, the newspaper reported. He was issued a ticket and is due back in Woodstock Town Court on Sept. 22.
In January 2004, Garfunkel was charged with marijuana possession after state police stopped his limousine for speeding in the Ulster County town of Hurley, which is near Woodstock some 55 miles southwest of Albany. During that stop, police found a small amount of pot in Garfunkel's jacket.
The next month, he pleaded guilty and paid $200 in fines.

I never fared well driving while stoned (eons ago...). I vaguely remember sailing right through a red light at a big intersection while my (also zonked) friend in the passenger seat ( eight miles away...) screamed "whadaya doin'!!!"... Unfortunately, I died when we collided with a low-flyin'/nosedivin' UFO (and my friend was abducted by the aliens...) Now, of course, I'm a ghost possessing the body of an old meguk English teacher in Korea... |

Honda Civics? Around 1971 (edit- it looks like 1972)- my friend had one of the first ones- looked like a little roller skate, a smaller, squarer Beattle.

Honda Civic Story
The first generation Honda Civic with a wheelbase of 220 cm arrived in July, 1972 as a shortbacked 2-door, accompanied in November, 1972 by a 3-door Hatchback. A 4-door came in December, 1973 with a wheelbase of 228 cm; it lasted until September, 1977 that the 5-door Hatchback was introduced. By November, 1974 a 5-door Wagon was released on the same 228 cm wheelbase, however with a rigid rear axle and leaf springs instead of the independent coil suspension. |

7-11? They have been around since the early 60's. |

My "sailing through the intersection" was unfortunately based on a real incident occuring, I think, in 1970 in my hometown, Springfield, Mass. Anything "made in Japan" in those days was considered practically worthless - even worse than Edsels... I don't think 7-Eleven (Southland Corp.) had spread up north yet, either. Anyway, although Art Garfunkle is undeniably a great talent - and one of the best tenors around (I occasionally play the English-captioned DVD of the S & G Central Park concert - especially the "Bridge Over Troubled Water" track - to my Korean high school students ...) he nonetheless exercised very bad judgment driving his car while stoned. (At least I was young and reckless...) |

Well, he got fined $200 last time. One would assume he'd be facing a similar "whack on the pee-pee" for this one.
What i DO disagree with is anyone driving stoned. What d'yall think: was he or wasn't he?

...You mean...maybe it was just another Italian spice - like oregano - in that joint? - ...or maybe he was set up (by some undercover b-i-t-c-h ) in that notoriously neo-Nazi town of Woodstock...? |

...I like watching "That 70's Show," and "Austin Powers" but, of course, they don't convey the real "revolutionary" mood of the Viet-nam era - just some styles that were co-opted by mainstream culture. The original Woodstock seemed great, but by the time of Altamont (see "Gimme Shelter" DVD) the counter-culture was becoming a horrific mess as far as the drug scene, and there were many casualties. I did my last joint in fall of '73... |
